Teju is a Writer, Director, Educationalist, and Entertainer who has lit up stages in Britain, New York, South Africa and many other regions. Her performance is an eclectic, dynamic mix of urban, upbeat sounds, incorporating poetry, rap, song and African/Caribbean languages and dialects. Her thought-provoking words elucidates the experiences and perceptions of a young Nigerian woman born and bred in London employing matters such as race, identity, religion and contemporary culture. She has previously been Co-Writer In Residence at Wandsworth Prison and has successfully completed many projects including a Black History Month collaboration, entitled, ‘The African Triangle’, sponsored by Redbridge Arts Council and her own innovation, ‘Creative Tongues’, sponsored by the Arts Council of England and supported by Hackney Youth Service and Hackney Music Development Trust.
Her accomplishments include writing/editing KICC International Gathering of Champions conference magazine ‘Joyful Noise’ and starring in a Film Council sponsored short film ‘The Darkened Mind’ by Zoe Boulet Productions.
Teju will be hosting Up Close & Inspirational - An Open Mic Evening with a Difference @ The Loose Cannon, 13-16 Allhallows Lane EC4R 3UL on Tuesday 28th July 2009.
