Biography
Ashengrace formed originally in 1994 as a three-piece lineup. Their first
album “Drawing Down The Moon” was released in 1997 and later
mastered to compact disc in 1998.
1998 saw a lineup change resulting in Ashengrace becoming a solo act with
David Holton performing all instruments, production, and songwriting.
The band got their first big boost as a member of Mike
Ventarola’s “Hidden Sanctuary” New Music Army on MP3.COM.
During the 1999 period David Released two albums. The first was an EP of
remixes from “Drawing Down The Moon” and two new tracks,
entitled “Awake In Semuta”. The second was a collection of demos for
the intended, but aborted, follow-up to “Drawing Down The Moon”
entitled “Blue Ruin”.
Fall of 2000 saw the release of the first new full-length studio album from
Ashengrace. Titled “Surface” this album saw it’s single “Seven”
repeatedly jump to the top of the shoegazer charts on MP3.COM and
began generating a fan base for the band outside their native Arizona.
In 2002, David put the finishing touches on “Eve and Mistral” and the release
of their first ever CD single for the track “Coldlight”. An aggressive
dance floor piece, “Coldlight” became a huge hit for the band resulting
in regular rotation at the BatCave in New York City.
In 2004 Ashengrace began recording “Sandstorm”, ultimately released in
January of 2005. Bassist Ian Christensen returned to the lineup at this
time and the two have continued working together ever since.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.ashengrace.com
Band Members: David Holton - vocals, lead & rhythm guitars, keyboards & programming
Ian Christensen - bass guitars, other guitars, noise

Influences: Cocteau Twins
The Cure
Depeche Mode
Joy Division
Lycia
My Bloody Valentine
Pink Floyd
Sisters Of Mercy
Slowdive

Sounds Like: Generally, our influences have been the closest representations of what we actually 'sound' like, or at least influence familiarity with. We've had comparisons drawn to Love & Rockets, the Jesus & Mary Chain, and once even Billy Idol (I never did quite figure that one out). But mostly people who have heard the Cocteau Twins, Lycia, The Cure, Depeche Mode, the Sisters Of Mercy, Pink Floyd, and Slowdive will find themselves in midly familiar territory in listening to us.

Don't be afraid to give us a listen if you never have.
