The idea behind the Panacea was born in 2000 after a rocking house party blew the roof off what the big clubs were unable to offer the discerning clubber in Liverpool. Si, Mart & Paul and a whole host of the now Panacea faithful were sitting in a living room after a particularly heavy house party in Liverpool reflecting on the night just passed: the freedom that house parties gave you from heavy handed arrogant security, the big club crowds more concerned with looking good, the overpriced drinks and extortionate door entry. Add all this to below par and lazy DJs playing for themselves not the crowd and you realise the big clubs are putting a real dampener on your vibe.

Hence a challenge was thrown and Si, Mat and Paul set about recreating that special house party scene on a bigger scale.

The result was the L&R parties. Housed in the old Fort Perch Rock….a fort which guards the entrance to the River Mersey, the parties were run with no advertising, relying on word of mouth only and a hard core of party people. L&R went from strength to strength. No nonsense parties: great sound, good people, a laid back attitude and a sensible door price provided the escape from an increasingly corporate club scene that many were looking for.

The unique vibe and fantastic crowds attracted were the only reason we're able book top class guest DJ’s and local DJ’s who loved the intimate atmosphere that the bigger clubs were missing. With a strict no free guest list and no VIP room policy, everyone was there for one thing only - the party, the people and the music.

Since then the parties have blossomed and the venues continue to be filled by a single email out to members and through word of mouth. After the sad closure of the amazing Trials Hotel which we managed to blag at cut price discount we headed for another new venue in Liverpool City Centre…The Cotton Club where House Proud was born.

If you've not been along before, get your names added to the members list via the website. We send no more than 12 emails a year & don't share our database with anyone and on request will send you free mix CD’s loving prepared by our residents.

To conclude, Panacea is what it is because of the crowd not the promoters, DJs or staff & we feel privileged & lucky to be doing it. Our motives were never to make money, just to have a great time...
