As an emotional writer and fierce lyricist, Ariestarrr is nothing short of direct, ardent, charismatic and aggressive when it comes to her music and career. She came from a musical family, whereby nearly every member was in the church choir and some aspiring singers. Ariestarrr preferred rap music over singing as there was something about the aggression and passion involved in the expression of rap music that held her soul captive till this day.
Ariestarrr was always surrounded by music involuntarily or just to escape the mess of life. This 22 year old rapper was born as Patricia in Toronto, where she lived with her mother and two sisters in stigmatized neighbourhoods. Her eldest sister often visited Queens, NY during the holidays to spend time with relatives. Upon her return to Toronto she always brought back rap cassettes of the illest rappers at the time such as Mc Lyte, Eric B & Rakim, Ice T, Big Daddy Kane , Kool Moe Dee, Rob Base and Ez-Rock. This is how Ariestarrr fell in love with rap music and realized that she had the skill to rap and write as well.
She wrote her first rhyme at the age of 11. Thereafter, life began to get difficult when her mother realized her daughter wasn't following the path she envisioned for her. Ariestarrr would rap using profanities on the school bus, aggravating the bus driver. At school, teachers started complaining about Ariestarrr's behavioural problems calling her a class "tyrant and non-conformist". After getting into many social problems and experiencing disapproval from her mother’s new boyfriend, her mother decided to send her to her father in Trinidad. She was forced to relocate and attend a school for both educational and disciplinary reasons, and delay her rap aspirations.
While enduring 4 years of psychological mayhem and physical abuse, she miraculously managed to develop the level of concentration necessary to acquire the grades for University and she was "hesitantly" allowed her to return to T.O.
Once admitted, she decided to stick with University because she worked too hard to get there. Therefore, she focused on her studies while writing on the side and graduated early. Upon earning her degree she handed it to her mother and said "here this is for you since you wanted it so bad".
Desperate for money to fend off creditors, she handed out resumes all over Toronto; from the top firms on Bay street to the strip joints in the suburbs. She took the first call-back and job offer- a waitressing job at a local strip joint.
After locking down the waitressing job, she began making more than a 9 to5 would pay. She was able to start paying her debt off and began to focus more on her music. Ariestarrr refused to go to sleep at night knowing she never tried to do what she was good at-rap music.
The environment was a blessing in disguise. It gave her the extra layers of skin and equipped her with the mental survival skills necessary to succeed in life and the music industry that University could never teach. She met a lot of phonies in these joints but her Business background helped as armour against the timewasters, bullshitters and wannabe's.
"I can say with confidence that I can stand on my own now, up against anyone and anything and no one intimidates me. There's more bullies & bullshitters in the world with money wearing business suits than there are broke men. There's a lot to learn about yourself when you are swimming in an ocean of drugs, hate, sex, drama, violence, money, power and idiocy. I learned alot about myself, thank God it’s all positive things"
Ariestarrr began networking with producers, promoters, while studying information about the music market, while, writing and recording. She used her life experiences and the experiences of others as inspiration for writing; she used the strip joints to test market her music; she had exotic dancers dance to her songs all over Toronto and she always paid attention to the customers reactions to her music.
She has recently completed her "killer" demo and is working on an independent debut album while seeking record label interest. She also continues to develop herself as an artist through vocal training, live performance detailing, writing and networking. Ariestarrr has done collaborations with singer and songwriter CandyMarie www.candymarie.com, and has been invited to do the remix for Jhevon Paris' Neva Eva ft. August track which is currently number 64 on the billboard charts. Ariestarrr has performed in small venues across Toronto and she is also on the the mixtape "Take One For the Team" produced by Artifak aka Bruce Lee which will be released in June 2007.
Ariestarrr gives much respect and thanks to the forefathers of rap music such as RUN DMC, PUBLIC ENEMY and MC LYTE just to name a few. Her favorite artists and primary influences due to her ability to relate to them are DMX, 2Pac and Eminem. Most of her music is emotional, aggressive and intense- audio discretion is advised. Internationally, fans are beginning to praise her lyrical ability and flow versatility. In essence, Ariestarrr is a symbol of strength and courage. Ariestarrr’s music stays real while being fit enough for the clubs. Her music focuses on motivating the audience to stand up for what they believe, and to persevere through struggles come what may.
