Dominica

"Raw and sultry. A true talent to be remembered!"

About Me

Born Jessica Patricia Bernard in metropolitan Toronto, she quickly adopted the persona of Dominica, named after her beloved grandmother. The youngest of three in a musical family, Dominica has developed a unique style strongly influenced by her mother, Sade, and Tina Turner. Her style can only be categorized as "Charcoal Soul". A completely self taught guitar player, Dominica writes simple songs about complex things: love, family, home, heaven. Phrases turn, emotions connect, and melodies soar. You sing along even though you have never heard the tune. She writes from a perspective of distances, of interludes between lovers and lives and the roads that lead from small towns to big cities. She performs her original hit The Brave off the "Sacred" album, a heartfelt tribute to 9-11. Since hitting the Raleigh scene seven years ago, Dominica has continually expanded her horizons, gathering a loyal fan base across in NYC, Miami, Michigan, Toronto, Washington DC, and numerous other locales across North America. She has been fortunate to share the stage with great groups like The Josh Pepper Project, Bill West, Mother Soul, Little Feat, and Marshall Crenshaw.
