Sounds Like: Reviews...If there wasnt enough fantastic bands in Cornwall at the moment, then here comes another one. The Fires will be blazing (sorry) a trail through the county as they launch their debut e.p 'Trick of the light' this oct.
The band, who are based at an isolated farm on the north Cornish coast, produce fierce-some guitar rock like Razorlight covering the Police's Invisible sun.
The e.p's title track is a driving ska-pop beast with hints of chiming War-era U2. There are hidden depths here like the shimmering synth line in the killers-like Around her finger. And theres a harder edge to The Fires as well-Headlights has the staccato attack of a band like At The Drive In.

................................................Released through Squareball Records, The Fires 'Trick of the Light' EP is a fifteen minute lesson in developed, new wave panache. The dynamic cornish trio delight in lofty choruses, purposful and brazen harmonies, hot hot heat-style chops and well-designed songs that actually take you somewhere thats worth the trip; augmented by Lee Ellis' exquisite lead vocal that dances playfully up and down octaves with natural grace. Add to that a brilliant production job with the perfect balance of punch and polish, and we have the kind of record that undoubtedly belongs up there in the big league...........www.247mag.co.uk...........................

...............................................Hailing from cornwall, The Fires are an energetic three piece who merge the sounds of hot hot heat, XTC and the Strokes on their debut TRICK OF THE LIGHT EP. Frenetic jerk-pop dynamics with an infectious pop edge, the influences are plain to hear; Joe Jackson, XTC, Elvis costello, The Ramones, but things are done with such an air of enthusiasm and energy that claims of unoriginality are practically rendered dead in the water.
The band bash out the kind of infectious pop tunes likely to see them winning fans wherever they go, songs such as the snappy trick of the Light and Around her finger, where they marry the choppy new wave edge of the Strokes to the snappy moves of Elvis Costello. On Headlights, The Fires jerk and snap their way through proceedings with every inch of energy and excitement they can muster, barking out the catchy choruses with glee and hitting those violent guitar stabs with vigour.
A dynamic and enthusiastic sounding debut EP, Trick Of The Light bodes extremely well for the future of this group......www.ukmusicsearch.co.uk..........................

nating in the badlands of cornwall, The Fires are an interesting prospect, mixing up the angular dynamics of Bloc Party and The Futureheads with an interesting sharp edge of At The Drive In and Biffy Clyro, but mainly sounding a lot like Bloc Party. No bad thing at all, as Bloc Party are one of the finest bands to emerge in the last decade. An interesting debut.......................www.rockmidgets.com
