Dj Rookie Traxxx THE MORE FIRE DJ

About Me

Like many other devoted DJs who couldn’t help but be drawn to the art of DJing, RookieTraxxx taught himself DJ skills on cheap equipment as a young teenager. As he gradually upgraded his gear, he picked up more tricks and techniques, experimented with scratches and samples. His expertise was earned through experience. At the age of 14, he had already graduated from DJing friends’ parties and neighborhood Jams, to big time club scenes. Escaping his guardians’ disapproving eyes, he often had to sneak out of his Washington Heights apartment to fulfill his passion of erupting dance floors, and sometimes bouncers wouldn’t let him inside until the promoter came out and assured them it was OK, that this was the DJ that everyone came to hear. Once inside, no one cared how young he was. He could drive the crowd crazy. RookieTraxxx understands his job as a DJ is to fire up the party, to get bodies moving, to keep the energy high ’til the break of dawn. While he can expertly work any dance floor, his star shines brightest in a large club room packed with people. Parties on a bigger scale reveal his mastery of spinning music and his sway over a bumping, hands-in-the-air celebration. His ambition isn’t to become a superstar DJ preening in the spotlight—never has been. DJ RookieTraxxx knows the music is what people come to hear, so he puts the music upfront and centerstage. The greatest weapon in DJ RookieTraxxx’s arsenal is his deep catalog of party hip hop songs, and he’s as familiar with each bass line, verse, high hat, and snare as he is with his own face in the mirror. His style entails quick cuts between tracks, often halting each one at no more than a minute. He seeks the sweet spot of each record, the moments that excite the crowd most, and then moves on to the next peak. And because nothing packs more of an emotional wallop than a track that evokes memories of when it was first current, DJ RookieTraxxx’s technique is to switch back and forth between old school classics and the fiery hits of the moment. He joins the past with the present and invites his audience to embrace their entire personal histories with music. RookieTraxxx doesn’t limit himself just to hip hop. He spins both soft and up tempo R&B, and a vast amount of dancehall reggae (again, spanning the old and the new) is in his repertoire as well. The high-energy choruses of reggaeton hits have been known to dominate certain sets, particularly for Latino parties. Based upon his insight into a crowd and how he knows dancers will respond, RookieTraxxx might even sneak in a few old new wave tunes or house classics. which must be another reason why the parties he spins at have such an all-encompassing, welcoming vibe. One of the most amazing things about this gifted DJ is everything he does is spontaneous. While he’s DJing, RookieTraxxx gets in a zone. He goes by instinct and, rarely looking up, he lets the sounds and shouts from the dance floor guide his way. Nor does he make mixtapes. They’re too set in stone for him. Too static. Any existing copies of his sets are from when friends have pressed Record on the sly. The “Traxxx” in DJ RookieTraxxx’s moniker represents the years he spent taking a break from DJing and devoting himself to the production side of hip hop music. Thankfully, he decided to return to playing out live, and now his audiences have the bonus of his exclusive bass lines and beats integrated into the songs they know and love, adding freshness, originality and a unique vibe to the party that no other DJ can replicate. Now, over a decade later, DJ RookieTraxxx is going stronger than ever. In his career, DJ RookieTraxxx has rocked many legendary Tri-State clubs—Club 2000, Vertigo, Esso’s, Exit, The Original Fever, Octagon, Supa Club, Brothers, Limelight, Sol, Velvet, LQ's, F-Lounge, Copacabana, the Original Jet Set, Jimmy’s Bronx Café (X-Bar), Studio 84, Crobar, China Club, Studio Mesmor, Lounge Central, Crash Mansion, Remy Lounge, The Drink Shop, Eclipse, Ambaroom, The Players Club and so many others. DJing is his life, and his love of music will keep him forever on the decks.
