I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Hi all! Married for 25 years to Kevin, a wonderful man. I have a wonderful family--Caitlin, who is a wife, mother, and Sonography student at LBW in Opp and Casey, who is going to school for his A&P Certificate and works part-time in Enterprise at Radio Shack and loves anything to do with computers and gaming.

I have been a RN for 21 years and completed my BS degree May 2007. It has been a long time coming!
I have since begun my graduate work in Midwifery/Women's Health at the University of Cincinnati. No---Alabama does not have a Midwifery school!!!!
My Professional/Academic affiliations:
SIGMA THETA TAU
ACNM
AWHONN
ANA
MANA
AANP
Currently working at Troy Regional Medical Center South in Troy, Alabama as a weekend nursing supervisor while working on my Master's degree in Nurse Midwifery/Women's Health!
Recent travels include Biloxi, MS (travel assignment), Oakland, California (travel assignment), Montgomery, Alabama (travel assignment). Travels planned for this year----Boston, San Francisco, Cozumel Mexico, Key West, and Seattle and who knows where else?
I have always been a homebody, but now I have my traveling shoes on!
I will be finishing my Master's in Nurse Midwifery in September 2009. My dream is to open a TRUE birthing center to give Alabama women an option in birthing allowing for a home-like setting for the event. When my dream comes into frutition, it will be the only Birthing Center in the state of Alabama. A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is a graduate (Master's with post Master's work) prepared nurse practitioner who specializes in women's reproductive health and delivers babies. She takes care of you in the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. The midwife can do everything that a doctor can in the care of a normal vaginal delivery. She can also advise in family planning including birth control and sexually transmitted diseases taking care of your annual check-ups.
During school, I will be interning in Dothan.
Women should have the option to deliver naturally in a comfortable setting and position rather than being tied to monitors and a bed by IV's and Electronic Fetal Monitoring equipment! If you cannot be at home, at least fight for your right to be in a home-like atmosphere. Delivering in a birthing center allows for eating, drinking, walking, dancing, snuggling, or any other types of coping strategies for labor discomfort. As women, we can cope with a lot more than what people give us credit for! The birthing experience should be beautiful and surrounded by love from your partner, family, and friends--not in a cold hospital room. I can however accomodate that wish too, complete with epidural if you so desire once I am complete in my training!..border=0 src="http://ct2.pimp-my-profile.com/button.gif" alt="MySpace Layouts" .."Myspace Layouts" style="position:absolute;top:0px;left:0px;">
