About Me
Housewife is one of the most captivating female rap artists/performers on the underground. Housewife handles her business, from alluring the crowd with her lyrics, to physically putting on a show. There has not been this much passion in an artist, let alone a female in over a decade. When housewife hits the stage, you will surely be entertained and totally satisfied with her performance. There is something so sexy, seductive, and powerful about her that makes you gravitate to her as if she made songs just for you. Yes! Housewife is exactly what the rap game, the world, but most importantly, what women need.Born Roletha Tawanna Perry, the middle child of three, Housewife grew up in a musical household. In fact, because of her mother and older brother, everything in their home had a beat. At the age of two, Tawanna- the name she likes to go by-was a young dancer, from the living room floor to the kiddy disco she was dancing in. Around five, she saw a movie called “Beat Streetâ€, and from there got into trouble frequently for mixing and scratching and her parents’ record player, trying to imitate the movie. This was her introduction to Hip-Hop. From then on, all of her notebooks for school had graffiti writing on them. At the age of nine, Tawanna fell in love with rap. From middle school through high school, every talent show, holiday show, and poetry contests, Roletha was there. On weekends, she took up dancing and acting classes at Freedom Theater. Before long, her weekends changed from her parents having to pay for dancing and acting classes to her and her older brother (Sandman) being paid to perform at WOW Family Fun Center (a local skating rink). At that point it was time to take it to the streets. So she and Sandman went from hood to hood, cypher to cypher, battle to battle, from South Street to Club Mickey D’s (Broad and Diamond). As the years passed, it was time to put it on wax, but Tawanna didn’t like the name Lady-T as a stage name. One day it hit her. What were the things she knew the most? Family, music and drugs. Growing up in the 80s was a time when free basing had began to take over and half the men she knew were baby “Nino Brownsâ€.Her mother stayed at home to make sure all of her kids got to and from school safely and played no further than the front lawn. She cooked and cleaned and made her marriage work for as long as she could. Naturally, these things were instilled into Tawanna, so she named her self Housewife. Knowing what she knows now, she wants to be a housewife and be an example of what a real woman is in this new generation. When asked by the streets about her name, she uses the line out of her verse, “I can call myself the Housewife cause I love ta cook da cakes n pies n serve da block 2 for 5s†as an expression of knowledge of the streets and drug game. It’s been fifteen years since Hip-Hop and Housewife married and for the last five years, the chemistry between the two has been very productive. In 2003, Housewife has retired as a female battle champ at Club Flow hosted by Larry Larr. She was managed for a short time by Charlie Mack (First out the Limo) who put Housewife on 106th & Park, which later resulted in collaborations with known local Philly artists. In 2004, Housewife and Sandman opened up for 50 Cent during their summer tour, 2005 was a wake up call to the female rapper in the city of Philly when Housewife won Female Artist of the Year at the underground Hip-Hop Awards hosted by Larry Larr, presented by Industry Music Group (IMG). Currently, Housewife is working on a mix tape of her own due to hit the streets in Spring 2006 on Cannons Inc.CANNONS IS DA LABEL
