Here's a little history about the band. (I suck at writing these damn things.)
Visitor 9 started out as an experimental band in the fall of 1998 under the name The F1 Project. The original line up featured Tim Stephenson on Vocals, Bobby Holmes (formerly of Spit) on Drums, Phillip Safley (of Suffocate) on bass, and Brandon Quinlivan (of Alcohol Prep) on guitar. The F1 Project was created out of a necessity and a void left by three other faltering bands Suffocate, Spit, and Alcohol Prep. It was created originally as a way to kill time between the "real" bands practices (who's members had become apathetic, were easily distracted by drugs and ultimately the death nail was "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" for the psone.) F1's songs were all half jokes, and pushed the members levels of technicality and experimentation to the limit. Phillip, Bobby and Tim were all fairly new to their instruments and positions, and the style was completely new and unique for Brandon. However after a matter of about a month the band had tightened up their songs and were creating several a day. Sadly just as the band started to hit their stride they broke up.
Fast forward a few years to 2000 Brandon Quinlivan after taking a break from the local music scene was overflowing with ideas and decided to call upon some old friends to form bands. The result were 3 different bands with 3 very distinct styles and sounds, Alcohol Prep(4.0), Solace, and Visitor 9. Visitor 9 Picked up almost immediately were The F1 Project had left of years ago except with a new lineup. Tim Stephenson once again took on Vocals, the NEW and Improved Phillip Safely again on Bass, Tommy Cuyle (formerly of Spit) on Drums, and Brandon Quinlivan on Guitar. Visitor 9 created unpredictable, bone crushing, experimental rock, that was both devastating and soothing for both the band and the audience. Their live act was a grand spectacle with out boiling over into "cock rock" territory, Tim's dramatic and charismatic stage antics demanded your attention, while brandon's "mock metal" and phillip's crushing tones and 220bpm riffs coupled with tommy's hyper speed drumming created a performance seldom found anywhere else. Visitor 9 pushed the envelope of experimental rock and just plain heavy rock not just amongst themselves but made a great impact on the local music scene, particularly the heavy bands (though they'd never admit it now). Unlike other local "metal" bands they never took themselves too seriously and in the same light as The F1 Project kept the songs and their stage act on a half joke kind of level. They were the least punk looking, sounding, or acting band ever, yet you could argue they were probably the most punk band ever out of alabama. Visitor 9 achieved a great amount of local success before their ultimate end in 2002 (or was it 2001 hmmm). In the end the band whose sole purpose for creating was to waste time between the "real" bands ultimately became the most popular.
"If you're not asleep yet, we might just be the band for you." - Tim Stephenson.
"I didn't bring my tambourine tonight, bet we're gonna try our best to rock your fucking socks off. And if you don't wear socks your feet probably stink" - Tim Stephenson
"We're too metal to play for you"
It's been years since I (brandon quinlivan) created this page. Since then I've had several offers to reform this band but none that really fit. So I guess this is all there will ever be of this band. Unfortunately the band broke up before ever recording any songs, with the exception of a few home videos, and bootlegs probably still floating around somewhere. So this page in all it's craptastic glory is all that is left.
