Born in London, went to school in London (although I spent most of my time in the dark room) started DJing in 1986 played at Raindance , Ministry Of Sound , and Club UK , (remember that place?) had a residency on the legendary Monday Nights at Stringfellows , alongside Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont , Stevie Jay (RIP) and Carl ‘Tuff Enough’ Brown .
In 1988 I turned my attention to studios and became a recording engineer, working for the likes of Hans Zimmer , The KLF , The Chimes .
Siouxsie And The Banshees , Billy Ocean and Lighthouse Family , amongst others!
I was also one half of remix team
Max & Macario and
Dezign Productions , remixing for the likes of
Shara Nelson ,
Backstreet Boys ,
Steps and
David Bowie . In 1995 I moved into A&R, and did stints for Jive Records and Warner Bros , working with bands and artists such as
Smoke City ,
Crustation , Angel Lee and Technotronic , Before setting up Concept Music in 2000.
Our first release was Nu Generation's 'Rescue Me' which sold over 400,000 units and became a worldwide hit (I even performed on Top Of Pops and CD:UK with the band!) See Videos.
I have seen the industry from most perspectives, and my experience, and understanding of the business ranges from engineering/mixing/producing, thru’ to A&R/contracts/publishing, to starting a record company from scratch, and everything that entails… Way too numerous to mention here!.
I am also an AIM board member (Association of Independent Music) .
A shared passion for dance music led to the creation of the suSU imprint in 2001,
with the legend that is Neil Rushton , suSU concentrates solely on quality underground music, and has released records by Octave One and Masters At Work , as well Compilations featuring, and mixed by Joey Negro ,
Giles Peterson , Blaze , Dimitri From Paris and Little Louie Vega ,I have also been involved in Concept's first joint venture with MTV
Which created a cult reality TV series called ‘Totally Scott-Lee’ featuring ex Steps star Lisa Scott-Lee in her search to reclaim her place in the pop charts. The partnership continued in 2006, with the follow up show ‘Totally Boyband’ which featured Dane Bowers (Another Level) , Bradley McIntosh (S Club 7) , Jimmy Constable (911) , Danny Wood (New Kids On The Block) and Lee Latchford-Evans (Steps) form a super boyband called Upper Street
The show was also broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and aired worldwide last year!Both Concept Music and suSU have enjoyed number one slots across international Pop, Club and Dance charts.
