About Me

Mike McLaughlin studied piano and guitar from the age of 8. In high school Mike took to the trumpet in order to be in the high school band. By senior year, Mike was first chair trumpet with many solo opportunities.Mike attended West Chester State University and majored in Music Education. While at West Chester he participated in many bands and vocal choruses. He studied voice, keyboard, strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion.
After college, Mike married and began a lucrative life of a salesman, eventually owning a manufacturer's rep firm in the microelectronics industry. Although still very interested in music, the dream took a back seat to raising a family.
At mid-life, the love of performing music took hold once again. Now that the kids are grown, he is back at it with a vengeance writing his own material as well as performing cover tunes of today's country & yesterday's pop oldies. He has performed locally with Kurt Johnston , Debrann Tocce, & the Romano Sisters. He enjoys local writer's rounds, and has played out his songs several times at the Hall of Fame Lounge in Nashville.
Mike is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and is an active co-coordinator in the local Eastern Pennsylvania workshop chapter responsible for the Lehigh Valley outreach and maintaining the chapter web page.. Mike writes primarily in the country music genre. His first hit, "Stepfather of the Bride" enjoys strong sales at CDBaby.com and Apple iTunes .

Influences: I have a diverse musical background. When I was young, the radio stations played all the hits, didn't matter what the genre was. I listened to 60s & 70s pop, R&B, rock, standards, classical, showtunes, and crossover country, Then there was a period where I would only listen to Jazz, and Blues. For the past decade, I've discovered country music and I am hooked.

I would say that lately, my biggest influences in getting back to my roots in music have been Kurt Johnston and Jim Carolan
