My musical journey started in Cote D'Ivoire, I studied classical guitar with Professor Demascolo in Abidjan, he introduced me to the music of Django Reinhardt, later on through various friends I discovered Jimi Hendrix , Kenny Burell , George Benson, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck among others , there was a plethora of guitar players, BB King and his beautiful blues, soukous guitar and the traditional congolese music. At that time I started a band of african music fusion, that performed music influenced by some of my guitar heroes there was so many of them people like AlDi Meola, John McLaughlin, Jim Hall , and of course the beautiful Wes Montgomery and all the people mentioned above. I was discovered by the then famous jazz band in Abidjan called ABIJAZZ with Peter Werbroock sax, I was able to perform on the stand the music of jazz greats Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong,Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter , Sonny Rollins and others. I was on the band stand sometimes 5 to 6 times a week, I was learning at an incredible pace, with all these musicians around me , I was lucky enough to meet and jam with jazz musicians performing in the city, people like Oliver Lake, Memphis Slim, Delbert Felix (a bass player who had performed with Wynton Marsalis), Alvin Queen a jazz drummer who has performed with some of the finest players in the world ........, I could not wait to go to the USA . I was so excited about jazz that we put together another organization a jazz organization called Blue note System, at its core there was a jazz quartet featuring Sammy Lartey ( veteran African Saxophonist) Tommy Ado ( veteran drummer and Serge A on bass. Some of my additional influences are in general african music , drums, m'bira (thumb piano), cora, balafon ...........and of course the guitar.
