The Erie Saxophone Quartet

About Me

The Erie Saxophone Quartet was formed in 2006 at the State University of New York at Fredonia. The quartet is dedicated to the study and performance of the saxophone as a classical and chamber instrument with repertoire including original works as well as transcriptions of music written before the saxophone’s invention. In early 2007, the quartet began to find international recognition among composers and has since inspired several to write music for saxophone quartet. The result of these collaborative efforts has been over a dozen new works for saxophone quartet in the past two years. The Erie Saxophone Quartet became the first chamber ensemble to both compete and win at the State University of New York at Fredonia's Concerto Competition in 2008.The Erie Saxophone Quartet has performed extensively and appeared at a wide vary of venues including community festivals, nursing homes, concert halls, colleges, public schools, churches, and even street corners! Some of these performances include appearances at the North American Saxophone Alliance Regional Conference (Penn State University), the Cardinal Saxophone Workshop (University of Louisville), Kresge Recital Hall (Carnegie Mellon University), Rosch Recital Hall (SUNY Fredonia) and the Lilac Festival (Rochester, NY.) The Erie Saxophone Quartet has also been featured on public radio several times including WXXI’s award winning program Backstage Pass (Rochester, NY), WRFA (Jamestown, NY), and WCVF (Fredonia, NY.)

Sounds Like: "Prior to this performance, I was not familiar with the Erie Saxophone Quartet and was not quite sure what to expect, but I left Kresge Recital Hall thoroughly impressed. I had never considered the saxophone to be a classical instrument but this quartet’s performance proved me otherwise. This group has talent, professionalism, and work ethic – and also a great chemistry that I feel will take them far." (March 2008) - "The Cut" Pittsburgh, PA
