Stephanie Rice is a native New Yorker and has been singing for the majority of her life. She had her first performance, tap dancing and singing at the tender age of seven. Being introduced to clubs packed with people waiting to be entertained, she tap-danced and sang her little heart out. After the audience heard her sing, they knew that something special was waiting for her in the future; and after seeing the movie Fame, the confirmation, for her, was made.
Music was her true calling.Stephanie continues to light the candle of tradition as a vocalist, composer, bandleader, actress, voice-over artist as well as a teacher of music. Her repertoire includes Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Blues, Pop and Classical music. She continues to perform in the idiom of these various genres in establishments and venues through out the United States. Stephanie has also performed internationally in Japan, Germany, Italy, Tuscany, Austria, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, The United Kingdom and Ireland.Stephanie attended and graduated from, New Yorks renowned, Music and Art High School where she learned musical theory and was Classically trained. She furthered her education, and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, at the New School University where she specialized in Jazz Contemporary Music. At the New School, Stephanie honed in on her skills in musical theory as well as vocal training and performance. She was enlightened and guided by the tutelage of Barry Harris, Janet Lawson, Junior Mance, Cecil McBee, Reggie Workman and Buster Williams, to name a few. By having the opportunity of studying with these phenomenal musicians, her vocal ability soared to great heights. While at the New School, Stephanies talent soon caught the attention of the trumpet extraordinaire, Jon Faddis, who soon hired her for a national tour of the musical, Lulu Noire. This opportunity later led Stephanie to Charleston, SC for the Spoleto Jazz Festival and her first trip to Cologne, Germany. She has learned from and performed with some of the best and her musicality continues to grow.Since Stephanies New School days, her talent has been enhanced by performing with such greats as Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis, Jon Hendricks, Babatunde Olatunji, Dakota Staton, Jack Walrath, Sekou Sundiata, Anthony Hamilton, The Harlem Gospel Choir, Karen Clarke Sheard, Ann Nesby, Queen Esther & The Harlem Gospel Singers and The Golden Gospel Singers among others.Stephanie has recorded with Sekou Sundiata, Generations, The Golden Gospel Singers, Geoffrey Loomis and the Boperetta Experience, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Queen Esther & The Harlem Gospel Singers, Matchbox 20, Adeva, Jack Walrath and Lena Conquest.
Shes also had the pleasure of participating in the Melon Jazz Festival, the American Music Theater Festival, The Bell Atlantic Music Festival, The Spoleto Jazz Festival, The Milk Festival, Festival des Arts de St. Sauveur Gospel and The Feathers Of The Wind Music Series.Her theatrical credits include such musical productions as Boperetta, Little Shop of Horrors, Black Illusions, Lovin That Man Of Mine and Lulu Noire.
