About Me

". . . an incredibly passionate, skilled and sensitive drummer! I have worked with him regularly in a worship service setting and am always extremely blessed by his desire to make a song and a moment all it can be. He is not only a drummer, but an artist. Not to mention, he is just an all-around great guy who is a blast to hang around!" - Shannon Wexelberg , Integrity Music & Doxology Recording Artist
"Along with being a great drummer.. Jon is simply the "best drum teacher in the world" according to my son, and oh by the way, my son is correct . . . he combines an intense knowledge of drummers, fun/playfulness, discipline, and amazing personal charisma to make deep connections with his students. I believe this connection translates into a love of drumming and music for the kids.. Jon you ROCK!" - Rusty Robison, private student's parent
"Jon Powers ROCKS! He brings innovation, skill, energy and GLUE to any band or ensemble! Having had the opportunity to play with Jon in a number of different situations it's easy to see why he makes the 'A' list of guys to call for a gig! Whether he's music directing the band or heading up the rhythm section he's easy to work with and incredibly versatile... he's an outstanding musician!" - Tim Foot , Worship/Music Minister LifeBridge Christian Church
"After 35 years as a self-taught drummer, I decided it was time to get some real education and training. But I'm no beginner, so it had to be somebody good. A friend of mine recommended Jon and I've found his breadth of experience, musical knowledge, technical expertise and teaching skills to be just what I needed." - Jeff Spontarelli, past student
" An excellent drummer who smoothly adapts to a variety of musical environments, making him a powerful asset to any rhythm section." - Dr. Isidro Aybar, Jr., CEO Fervor Music Productions, LLC
"I knew since my very first lesson with Jon that I was in for an incredible journey. He is gifted, as a teacher, as a drummer, and as a person. While studying with Jon, he shared countless pearls of wisdom, opened my eyes to a world of amazing music, and helped me reach the goals I wanted to achieve with my drumming. His lessons are backed by a wealth of first-hand experience in the music industry, and he truly cares about the progress of each individual student. Thanks for everything, Jon!" - Shawn Crowder , past student
------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------
I started playing drums at age 6. Growing up I participated in both church and school bands and in high school got into jazz, though bands like Living Colour and U2 were also big influences on me. After high school, I attended the University of Denver Lamont School of Music and have gone on to free-lance professionally playing jazz, rock, blues, pop, etc. I have also been teaching drums for over 10 years.
My teachers include Art Lande and Rudy Royston ; performance credits include Shannon Wexelberg , Dave Powers , Phil Driscoll , Shaded Red , Ryan Brackin , Bijoux Barbosa, Nate Wooley, Longmont Symphony Orchestra , 8 Track Allstars, and Acoustic Eidolon ; recording credits include 3ology , Eveningtide , Sanskrit , Sound Picture , Audience of One, Brandon Vaccaro , The Good News Blues Band, and the soundtrack for the musical Virtual Love.
Currently I offer private drum instruction for beginning to intermediate players of all ages, am a member of the jazz group 3ology and continue to free-lance throughout Colorado.
