Formed probably around '95 when Jay and Steve met whilst playing for Peter Perrett of the Only Ones. During long periods of inactivity they found themselves busking together and eventually formed The Genteels - after initially signing an independent deal with Poppy Records and releasing one single they chose to go it alone in search of bigger opportunities which at the time seemed to beckon. They met Callum in 1997, who became the permanent bass player, and things were looking good. With increasing media and industry interest and a general buzz about the band it seemed to everybody only a matter of time before their moment arrived. Alas, it wasn't to be and after a brief period as a four piece with guitarist Marc Olivier in 2000, they decided to call it a day and after a final farewell gig at the Monarch in Camden their story ended.
