About Me

October 30, 1996:
The Gentile Groove Band (featuring J. Craig McDonald) played a two-set acoustic show in the King College coffee house. The opening act for the evening was folk songwriter/vocal stylist Josh Dolezal. Dolezal played some new material that included Spanish lyrics and the subject of smoking cessation. The Gentile Groove Band followed his act with their own new material which touched on the subjects of Emily Dickinson, smoking cessation, and Red Kool-Aid Mustaches. The show was taped and distributed during Christmas break of the same year. The cover art was a picture of Søren Kierkegaard and was titled Battlestar Acoustica. 2nd and 3rd generation copies were distributed amongst friends and were lost underneath car seats and behind book shelves.
November 1996-1999:
The band continued to play and record live music over the next four years. Many of the original members were replaced. The original acoustic sound was also replaced with new electric instruments, and the primary concern of the band shifted from making quality music to simply raising enough money at the door to cover the band's bar tab.
2000-2006:
During this time, Joey Morecraft lost all of his hair. David Bedsole went to seminary. Brandon Story married one of his students. Colin Roberts hiked the Appalachian Trail. Jason Slayton dated one of Joey Morecraft's Students. M. Brett Everhart remains unchanged.
Current:
The original members are all back together. Now simply The Gentiles, they will be playing a 10-year commemoration show in honor of Battlestar Acoustica. The event will take place on the 28th of October at the historic Down Home, located in Johnson City TN.

To do something

With the Gentile's Reunion just hours away (about 120), the question lingers:  Why?  I remember being proud of our little group for several reasons: the haircuts, the songs, the intramural ...
