DJ's Alex&Leo

Los Angeles-based DJ duo Alex & Leo met at a nighttime Brazilian barbecue. When Leo first saw Alex he was sitting along the edge of a pool table wearing a swanky blue hat. Leo thought to himself: ‘He looks so snobby! Look at him!’ It turns out Leo was extremely wrong.This was in 2005.The two quickly started a strong bond.Both Alex G. and Leo Azevedo come from a Brazilian background. But they are a different breed of Brazilian, in that they did not inherit the passion for soccer or samba, as most Brazilians are viewed, but instead took that innate sense of rhythm and applied it to the skill of making people dance; or, in other words, to DJ.Alex G. had an early start with music in his mid-teens playing at house parties with a very low-budget setup. He quickly rose to popularity in his native city of São Paulo as an up-and-coming DJ. Along with the help of his cousin, DJ Odil, and his friend, renowned Brazilian DJ-producer Fabio Stein, he played at several nightclubs around the city and threw bi-monthly parties such as Wavecrasher and Village Heaven. And then he moved to Los Angeles…Leo Azevedo began his DJ’ing career under the guidance and inspiration of Nat Whelton, AKA Nathaniel Jay, of Brooklyn, New York. It was Nat who first handed down to him a beat-up 2-channel mixer. Leo, already having an enormous passion for collecting music, purchased two of the cheapest DJ CD players he could find. And soon he was playing whatever he could, at whatever party or venue in New York City that would have him. And then he moved back to Los Angeles…And it was after that barbecue that Alex and Leo began playing together. With the energy of two Brazilians behind the decks, the astute voracity of two minds mixing alike, they developed a blend of house music like no other. Alex G.’s keen taste for deep, funky, and classic house music, along with Leo Azevedo’s sharp perception of vocal, commercial house lead them to fuse their talents into one.It was with this craft that they have played at numerous events/venues including: Spundae-Los Angeles at Circus, The Roosevelt Hotel, EM Sundays at Hollywood Canteen and at Joseph’s Café, Nacional, Avalon Hollywood, Melt at Tiger Lily, among many others.They currently hold a Saturday night residency at the House+Sexy party at Shag-Hollywood, and a Tuesday night residency at the Centerfold party at Privilege on the Sunset Strip.
