Alternative rocker Shawnee offers delicious rock music for consumption by hungry fans. He crafts rock-and-roll with pop friendliness and a serious message – all with a healthy respect for jazz-based ideas - combining fun and intelligence into a cohesive sound that boasts mainstream accessibility but which resonates with undeniable originality.
Shawnee started playing music at the very young age of 3, when he picked up playing on his very first instrument, drums. From then on, almost every instrument was up to him. Shawnee wants fans to see what he sees in music. It inspires a plethora of emotions and presents a “swirling aurora of colors and sounds in my head, constantly in motion.” His rich songwriting conveys his transcendent joy in music to his fans. The listener can only revel in solid melodies, addictive rhythms and meaningful lyricism.
"Always write from the truth inside", says Shawnee. Don’t force yourself into a mold in which you do not fit. Honest songwriting is good songwriting. Shawnee’s music is proof. “Never go by textbooks. Always go by your heart and soul; for when it is written from your heart and soul, then it is real music.”
Shawee says that many aspects of life inspire his writing and playing. He cites his father and family among other things. But most of all there is a spiritual motivator. “Many things inspire me to write and play. Out of all, however, the highest inspiration to me would be God, what happens around me and what’s happening within my and others’ lives at the moment.” From earth to sky, the whole of existence fuels Shawnee’s playing, and the result is universal themes to which all can relate, presented in a musical personality distinctly Shawnee’s.
Shawnee has nabbed a number of jazz awards, most notably the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. The coming months will boast pleanty of recording time for new material by this Fort Worth-born, Ottawa, Kansas-dwelling artist. The near future also holds the promise of a new release from this distinguished artist. “Simply, I love music and I hope and pray that many others come to love my music and my work for many years to come.”
