Yie Gi has been working on his lyrics for as long as he can remember. It was a chance meeting with a friend in high school gym class after moving to Nashville from Grenada Mississippi that really put his talent in motion. He already had the words on the paper when his friend convinced him to add the beats. That was all it took to get him on the road to his future.He has always been creative but didn’t always know how to harness his ambition. Even the name Yie Gi (pronounced Y G) came from wanting to find his own identity and separate himself from the pack. When asked about the name, he jokingly says that his name used to be Young Got-it cause he has always been flashy artist! How ever in the beginning people would call him "Gotti" like the Memphis Rapper Yo Gotti and he would mostly hear “Young Gotti†when he was around town. He grew an attachment to the name but knew that it sounded to much like the names of other rappers. He decided to go with Y.G. and spelled it out "Yie Gi".He credits Tupac, Jezzy, Nelly & Rob Base among others as his musical inspiration and hopes to one day be held in the same regard with those that he considers to be great. He has already finished laying down the tracks on his debut CD “Northshop Welcome 2 Da City†and even though he is currently awaiting the CD release date, he is deep into working on his second album. He is also working with Letz Go Get It Entertainment and is excited about several other projects including helping out with his partner Lil Trav to get their group CD.
