Do not call her a singer/songwriter! Danejer is a fierce, passionate and raw force to be reckoned with who defies and challenges all labels.
Entering the Sydney gig circuit in 2008 armed with a varied assortment of songs, an explosive attitude, a bear faced sick roadie and her decorated stage piano, she is not that great, but better than the McDonald's carpark. If you wanted a mellow pub rocker strumming on a bar stool, you’ve sought the wrong girl.
Danejer’s music has been described as an eclectic and twisted mix of piano thrash, pirate music and cabaret. Her sound is sharp, her fingers dance with speed and her performance is theatrical; it’s frantic and frenzied, playful and at times psychotic, but always entertaining. Danejer captivates the audience with her warm, rich and at times rough vocals, throwing in the occasional operatic note and melodious wail.
Once Danejer could have been found singing in the chapel at a wedding or funeral. And a few years ago you could have seen her on stage playing bass with the Sydney indie band Plastiscene, where her original song “Can’t work Sundays†was selected to feature in the short film “Chicken Fillets: Journey to the formal†directed by Herbey Wagner, an independent film maker from Brisbane.
These days, she prefers to inject a burst of life into venues round old Sydneytown. Joining forces with drummer Lockhey, the pair deliver a fiery performance, bursting with energy every time and guarantee to make ears prick up, and take listeners on a journey into the fantastically crazy sphere of Danejer Music.
