About Me

IN A NUTSHELL: Born in Havana, Cuba (el Cerro tiene la llave!! ) in 1960. Came to the USA in 1967 (yes, the Red Sox lost THAT World Series also! ). Studied at Riverside Elementary, Ada Merritt Jr. High, Citrus Grove Jr. High, Booker T. Washington Jr, High, then went on to lead the Loyola High baseball team to 2 Florida State Championship Finals -winning one (in 1977 - winning pitcher) and loosing the other one in 1978 to "Storm" Davis and Jacksonville University Christian. "Storm"later became a Baltimore Oriole / Oakland A's star hurler (thanks Storm - for making my career choice easy!!!). Started in the music business in the year 1980, working for the legendary "Happy Note" record store in Coconut Grove under UNCLE MILT (RIP). Switched to Capitol Hi-Fi records in 1981 (another miami legend!! ) and learned all about selling and life under the tutelage of my mentors Jay Sanchez & Ike Serure. From 1981 to the present I have owned or have been involved in other music stores and projects such as: Yardbird Records (with the one and only Mr. Michael Dean), Flippers Music (the first Miami record store to sell Cuban music OPENLY by musicians still living in the island and many other World Music styles, which only now are in vogue) and Esperanto Music (whose customers included, Chris Rock, Lennox Lewis, Paquito D'rivera, Michel Camilo, Nat Chediak, Fernando Trueba, Jorge Sanz, Elvis Costello, Larry Coryell, Albita, Desmond Child, Iggy Pop, Albita, Chico O'Farrill, Juan Formell, Bamboleo, Barbarito Torres, Jose Luis Cortes - and many others! ). Flippers and Esperanto won many awards given by local newspapers including, best place to buy World Music, Latin Music and used cds/lps....... I have a 20 year old daughter, Connie, who is my pride and joy. She is in the auto salvaging business & also attending broadcasting school with the hopes of someday owning BET!! J/K!! All-in-all I have been in the music business 27 of my 47 years and will soon sell music once more to the general public in a retail setting that will also double as a cultural space..!!!!. I'm a big jazz nut and listen to all types: bop, fusion, funky, avant-garde. I collect LPs and BUY large Jazz/Cuban/Funk/Soul/Blues/African & world music collections.
