He is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and was raised in a family that has a very strong backround in music. "I feel that there is so much talent in Dayton then a lot of people realize. I have so many influences. Yea I listened to the R&B groups such as Toni Toni, Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, TLC as well as Bone Thugs in Harmony, 2Pac, Biggie, Luniz, E-40. I listened to the lyrics, but mostly paid attention to the instrumentals and thats when I realized I wanted to become a musician/songwriter". Jay-A has performed in numerous cities which includes Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Georgia just to name a few. Signing with MeriGlo Entertainment has gave Jay-A a chance to express as well as broading his musical talents. "My influences on the production side includes Rodney Jerkins, Pharrel Williams, Timbaland, Dallas Austin. I feel that the instrumentals and songs that I have created is different than what is out in the industry today. I usually get ideas late at night, so I always find myself being up all night just writing and creating instrumentals.
