About Me

Hi!!! I am Don from Cleveland, Ohio... I was born in Ohio... Went to Fullerton College in California... I was Drafted into the United States Army in July of 1965... I Took Basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky, then on to Fort Sill Oklahoma, for Artillery training, with a (13B40) MOS... After training I was sent to Vietnam in November, 1965 and assigned to the "First Infantry Division"... also known as ( The Big Red One )... I was in "A" Battery, 7th. Artillery as a Gunner on an air mobile 105mm. Howitzer, for one year, until November 1966... My last combat mission was "Operation Attleboro" 11/66 ... near the Black Virgin mountain near Tay Ninh, along the Cambodian border !!!After my one year tour in Vietnam, I was assigned to Fort Carson Colorado, near Colorado Springs, for 7 months, as an Artillery instructor, where I was then Honorably Discharged, in July 1967...I then worked for 26 years as a Telephone Central Office Communications technician, and am now retired...Over my lifetime, I have enjoyed traveling to 49 states, (all except Alaska) and 8 countries in the far east, including Japan, Manila, Malaysia and our northern and southern borders countries, Canada and Mexico...I have also done volunteer work with various disability and amputee support groups over the years... I enjoy helping people and have met many wonderful and very special people while doing so...I am a Diabetic, with peripheral neuropathy and vascular disease and swelling in Both feet and legs, which is progressing, and making walking very difficult and may possibly lead to an amputation if it worsens...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I would enjoy hearing from "Vietnam" veterans that were in the Army, "First Infantry Division" ( The Big Red One )... in "A" Battery, 7th. Artillery, a (Pheon) at Dian and Bearcat base camps... Nov.1965 to Nov.1966...I would also enjoy hearing from any Female Amputee that would care to have a penpal or friend, because of having a great two year relationship during the mid 1980's, with a very wonderful lady, that had lost her left leg above her knee, due to a car accident in 1978, at age 38... Her accident was eight years prior to my meeting her... Because of having that relationship, I am very familiar with the daily life of living with an amputee... I also know about the high cost of purchasing and maintaining prosthetic limbs out of pocket, when one does not have enough insurance coverage, or funding for them... I am willing to help someone with funding of a prosthesis if needed....Due to my progressing flare-ups of Diabetes, Vascular Disease, Cellulitis Infections and severe Neuropathy and related foot and leg problems, which is making walking very difficult and painful for me... I would like hearing from any recent amputees regarding the outcome of their surgery, to learn about any new advances in surgery or prosthetics, to help me weigh the difficult decision, for or against having an amputation,,, to avoid incuring a possible life threatening infection in the near future !!!
