About the Fry Street Quartet: ************************************************************ *** Winners of the Millennium Grand Prize the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the First Prize at the Yellow Springs Competition, and prizewinners at the prestigious 2004 Banff International String Quartet Competition, the FSQ performs nationally and internationally. At Isaac Sterns invitation the quartet performed their 2001 Carnegie Hall debut in a performance that spoke of precision, preparation, excitement, profound heritage, and ultimate satisfaction (New York Concert Review). Their performance earlier that season at the 92nd Street Y in New York was hailed by the New York Times as a triumph of ensemble playing. The FSQ made their European debut with a concert tour of the Balkans sponsored by Carnegie Hall and the U.S. State Department, and is regularly invited back to tour throughout Europe. The quartet is Faculty Quartet in Residence at Utah State University.

Band Members: William Fedkenheuer, violin:Matching elegance and refinement with a fire in the belly (Boston Globe) internationally acclaimed violinist William Fedkenheuers performances are passionately intelligent and intelligently passionate. (Boston Globe) Winner of the Lincoln Center Martin E. Segal Award, the Canadian native has distinguished himself as a versatile artist with performances as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. Mr. Fedkenheuers touring in the US has included performances at Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall Presents, San Francisco Performances and the National Gallery. Abroad, he has performed at the American Academy in Rome, Fountainbleu, Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, the Taipei National University of the Arts and in Austria, at the famed Esterhazy Castle during the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt. Mr. Fedkenheuer studied at Rice Universitys Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Kathleen Winkler, as well as with Miriam Fried at Indiana University. Recently retired from six years as a member of the internationally acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet, Mr. Fedkenheuer joins the Fry Street Quartet on the faculty of the Caine School of the Arts at Utah State University.************************************************* ************** Rebecca McFaul, violin:One of the founding members of the Fry Street Quartet, Ms. McFaul enjoys a diverse and exciting career as a chamber musician, teacher, and soloist on the national and international stage. She has performed in the United States, Argentina, Austria, Bosnia-Herzogovina, Brazil, Canada, The Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Panama, Slovenia, Uruguay, and The Republic of Yugoslavia. With the quartet Ms. McFaul has given a Carnegie Hall debut in 2001, toured throughout the Balkan States under the sponsorship of Carnegie Hall and the U.S. Department of State in 2002, and was a Naumburg finalist in 2003. In addition to touring with the quartet, she has appeared as soloist with orchestras in Utah and North Carolina, and enjoys teaching at summer festivals across the country. Ms. McFaul earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Marilyn McDonald, and her Masters of Music degree at Northwestern University, where she studied with Gerardo Ribeiro. At Northwestern, she was awarded a Civic Orchestra of Chicago Graduate Fellowship while serving as principal second violin. As an artist-in-residence at the Caine School of the Arts at Utah State University, Ms. McFaul enjoys teaching violin and coaching chamber music ensembles. ************************************************************ *** Russell Fallstad, viola:A founding member of the Fry Street Quartet, Mr. Fallstad has been hailed by the New York Concert Review for his glorious strength, fine posture and elegance. Growing up in Minneapolis, an only child in a non-musical family, Mr. Fallstad began Suzuki violin lessons in the public schools, and has since blazed a remarkable trail as a violinist and violist. His principal teachers were Helen Loing, Mark Bjork, and Gerardo Ribeiro. As principal of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Fallstad worked with renowned conductors, Barenboim, Boulez, Mehta, Solti, Tilson-Thomas, and many others. As a chamber musician, Fallstad has performed with musicians such as Miriam Fried, Lynn Harrell, Paul Katz, Donald Weilerstein, and Pinchas Zukerman. With the Fry Street Quartet, Mr. Fallstad has performed internationally, given a Carnegie Hall Debut, recorded five CDs, and won top prizes in the Fischoff, Yellow Springs and Banff International string quartet competitions. Deeply committed to education, Mr. Fallstad has taught at DePaul University, Northwestern University, and the North Carolina School for the Arts, and he currently teaches viola and chamber music at the Caine School of the Arts at Utah State University. He is an advocate for the Suzuki Method, and has taught young children at the Music Institute of Chicago, the Western Springs School of Talent Education, the Naperville Suzuki School, the Suzuki-Orff School, and at summer institutes across the nation.***************************************************** ********** Anne Francis, cello:Recognized as a passionately expressive cellist and a gifted educator, Ms. Francis has been a prizewinner in the Carmel National Chamber Music Competition, the Darius Milhaud Performance Prize Competition, and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School's Center for Advanced Quartet studies three times and participated in the Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in 1995, 1999, and 2001. In addition to her appearances with the Fry Street Quartet, she has appeared as guest artist with the Kalamazoo (MI) Bach Festival, the Fontana Summer Music Festival, the Olympic Music Festival (Seattle, WA), the Swannanoa (NC) Chamber Music Festival, the Norse Festival at Northern Kentucky University, and SummerFest La Jolla, and performed as soloist with orchestras in Michigan, North Carolina, Utah, and at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She served as assistant to Paul Katz at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University while pursuing her Master of Music degree, and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Richard Aaron and Alan Harris. Previous teachers include Bonnie Hampton and Bruce Uchimura. Ms. Francis is on the faculty of the Caine School of the Arts at Utah State University, teaching cello and chamber music.
