Since the early 1980s the name Jeff Scantlebury has been synonymous with classy and well organised percussion. As an artist who thrives on his ability to create moods and moments, success is in the performance. Over the years his unique style of playing has led him to work with an array of internationally recognised artists. He has played, toured and recorded with people such as Linton Kwesi Johnson, Boy George, Culture Club, Curiousity Killed the Cat, Bobby Womack, Womack and Womack, Eddy Grant, Neneh Cherry, Terence Trent D'Arby, Bomb the Bass, Alison Moyet, Cat Roachford, Yazz, Primal Scream, Edwin Collins, Suzanne Vega, Soul to Soul, Oleta Adams, Desiree, Maxi Priest, Loose Ends, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Jamiroqui,Chante Moore, The Spice Girls, Mica Paris, The Brand New Heavies and lots more.Jeff's first taste of production came in 1993. Having just completed work on an album with Japanese rock band Street Sliders, Producer Yu Imai asked him to work on his next project for Sony Records Japan as co-producer. The album, "Shake The Whole World" featuring African Kora genius Toumani Diabate and his Symmetric Orchestra was recorded inAbijhan on The Ivory Coast.The famous point of no return was passed - he had caught the bug and it was only a matter of time before he started recording and producing his own music.In 1996 came the final decision to concentrate on the making of his album. He gave up touring, only taking the occasional recording session - for fun! The result - his solo debut album "Its Personal".Following on that Jeff wrote and produced album material with Skott Francis.Since then he has been concentrating on writing and producing his latest projects with Natasha Springer and Simon James as well as helping to complete an album with Vanessa Haynes. He also keeps his hand in doing the occasional gig - still just for fun!
