Take the Dante's Inferno Hell Test Nicholas MacTavish was captured, beaten and brought on board the Emerald Rose after an attempt on the lives of it's Captain "Splinter" McCormick and 1st mate "Mad" Morty several weeks prior by a man looking just like Nicholas.Several eye whiteness said that they had seen Nicholas in his Blacksmith shop while others had placed him on the docks where the attempt was made. It was not until one of the whiteness mentioned the last they say of MacTavish was when he was shot in the chest and fell into the water and vanished.... apparently, at the time, to have drowned. At this point Nicholas protested and said that he had never been shot and to prove it they need but check for a bullet wound. Upon checking, they discovered several bullet wounds and a variety of scars, but to their dismay all were old wounds. At this point Nicholas looked up at his captors and defiantly said "Are ye satisfied" ...... "The one ye be look'n for is me brother Lucian!!!"At this, Nicholas began his story.....Triplets came to the MacTavish family in the small fishing village of Stevenston Scotland on a cold winters morning. A rare event that would usually bring joy, but there were complications and Laura MacTavish died during childbirth. Her husband Kalab, seeing this as a bad omen ran off leaving the three boys as orphans. Nicholas, Donald and Lucian were placed in an orphanage in Glasgow where they stayed for years. At the age of five Donald was the first to leave and to this day has never been seen by his brothers. Nicholas and Lucian vowed to stay togather no matter what happened. Several years later the boys had just turned fourteen and were released from the orphanage to fend for themselves. Nicholas had been taken as an apprentice to a blacksmith and quickly became as skilled as his master. Lucian prefered to gamble and associate with thieves and smugglers. One night Nicholas went to find his brother and upon doing so found Lucian being taken away by British Navel officers after he attempted to relieve one of them of their coins. Nicholas ran over and begged the officers not to punish him, and if they didn't he would willingly offer his servitude to the Royal Navy. Admiring the tenacity of the youth, Captain Edward Russell, who had come down to see what the trouble was with his officers, agreed to take Nicholas and his brother into service. Lucian, begrudgingly accepted this and proceeded with his lackluster ways and contempt for authority. Under the watchful eye and tutelage of Captain Russell, Nicholas excelled and rose through the ranks over the next three years to become one of the youngest Lieutenants in the Navy. Highly adept in navigation, tactics and swordplay Nicholas absorbed all he could and volunteered for every excursion that was available. Lucian, on the other hand, spent much of his time in the brig for insubordination and attempting to flee. The only thing that saved Lucian's life from hangings was the loyalty and pull that Nicholas had achieved. This ate away at Lucian. During the Battle of Barfleur on the corner of the Cherbourge peninsula of France, the now Admiral Russell commanded the English and the Grand Dutch fleets against Anne Hilarion de Tourville's French fleet. Nicholas was aboard the "Grand Sovereign" when she engaged the French fleet under Captain William Anderson. They made short work of the "Saint-Philippe" and the young captain seeking to make a name for himself and against the advice of Nicholas, turned their guns on the Tourville's flagship the "Soleil Royal". They quickly realized that they were severally outmatched. Panicked and confused, Captain Anderson was giving orders that would have lead to the quick deaths of all his crew. At this point a volley of cannon-fire struck the deck on which he was standing. The Captain dead and the crew in shock, Nicholas assumed command. Under his leadership the crew rallied and the tide turned, ordering chainshot and fire pots, the French flagship was taking heavy damage now. Fires were ablaze everywhere and here rigging was all but destroyed. With all of the smoke Nicholas's crew didn't see the "Sirene" slip up on her till it was too late.... a shot took out the "Grand Sovereign's" main mast sending the crew scrambling to get out of the way. When Nicholas got to his feet he felt a sharp pain in his back, spinning around he sees Lucian standing there with a bloody knife in hand and a spiteful glare in his eyes. The last thing Nicolas remembers is the explosion from the gunpowder barrels below deck as they are hit. Two weeks later, Nicholas regains consciousness and hears that the French were defeated but his ship was sank in the explosion with most of the crew killed or missing, including Lucian. After his wounds were healed Nicholas left the Navy to resume the life of a Blacksmith, which he had done for ten years.Nicholas pauses for a moment and reflecting on the past...... looks up at Captain Splinter and Mad Morty and says "dunna worry..... we can get em"
