About Me
Christopher “Hustle†Currie was born and raised in the south side of Chicago where from an early age, he was exposed to the captivating world of music. Born to a family of talented musicians, Currie did not stray far from his roots when his eagerness to play the piano resulted in lessons from his father by the time he was three. It was not long before his parents recognized his amazing gift on the instrument and enrolled him in formal training classes, which he took for 15 years. During this time, Currie continued to increase his musical capacity when he started taking drum and flute lessons as well. He proceeded to demonstrate a true talent and deep appreciation for the art of music, winning many awards from a number of statewide musical competitions. As Currie’s talents developed, so did his interest in various styles of music and by the age of ten, the enchanting sounds of jazz and gospel music were what inspired his performances. It was at this point that Currie began playing in the church, once more expanding his musical skills. In high school, Currie’s involvement in music might have diminished if it weren’t for Kenneth Lenon, a music director who immediately recognized Currie’s great potential and talent. With Lenon as a mentor, Currie began making musical tracks for the choir and was thus introduced to the intricate art of music production that would eventually become his career. Additionally, he continued to compete in both statewide and nationwide competitions, winning contest after contest. Now, however, Currie was impressing judges and audiences alike with a new and exceptional sound: music he himself had written. Inspired by a range of composers and producers from Mozart to Monk and Quincy Jones to Dr. Dre and Timbaland, music had become an integral part of Currie’s daily life. In 1995, Currie formed a rap group called Kountin Cash Ballaz (www.hunnedspoke.com) with his cousins, Calvin "Drupy" Lane, and Carl "Kayo" Lane, which was well received in the Midwest and scouted by major record labels. By 2002, Currie was developing a reputation as not only as a phenomenal rapper, but an extraordinary producer as well. While later studying Criminal Justice and Economics at Florida A&M University, he became more engrossed in the production of music as he formed Double Trouble Productions with Samuel Todd. With this company, he started to make a name for himself as a producer throughout Tallahassee and the South. By the end of the year, he decided to venture out on his own, working independently to “ghost track†music for other producers he had admired and always hoped to work with. In 2003, Currie teamed up with his friend, Lauren “LenahStar†Winfield to form their innovative production company, Beats R Us Productions. Growing up in Houston, Texas, Lauren “LenahStar†Winfield has long been immersed in the world of music. From an early age, she was exposed to a variety of artists ranging from enduring greats, such as Winton Marsalis, to local artists, such as DJ Screw, ESG, and UGK. From this assortment of classic, mainstream, and emerging performers, Winfield’s profound love and appreciation of the art was born. Crediting her older brother with the depth of her musical education, Winfield recalls the days when he played songs by the “originators of real music†for her and encouraged further melodic exploration through their poetic writing sessions and playful exchanges of beat boxes. Realizing how much music spoke to her and how much she could speak through music, Winfield went on to receive professional instrumental and vocal training for several years. Her expanded knowledge and practice of the art nurtured her devotion to it and she realized her great desire to communicate through such a universal language on a much larger scale. Well before she had even graduated from high school, she decided much of her life’s journey would be dedicated to her heart and soul’s true passion: music. Now a Florida A&M graduate with a Masters degree in Business Administration, Winfield hopes to combine the knowledge she has gained from her formal education with her natural affinity and fondness for music in order to create an exceptional production company. Having paired up with Currie, she feels all the components are in place to pursue her dreams and is committed to creating phenomenal music. Without a doubt, Winfield and Currie’s individual styles are in harmony and their shared love and passion for music provides an overriding theme that resonates with quality and rareness. Together, Currie and Winfield have developed a niche sound that distinguishes them from traditional production teams and allows them to deliver compositions that are reflective of their pure talent and originality.
