About Me

I am a 24 year old Psychology major (on that 5 year plan.) I am totally going through that whole early twenties "Who am I? What is my place in the world? stage. Until recently I was bartending at the Mudlounge in downtown Springfield, but I have found that it is indeed possible to have too much fun. Now I am sort of stepping back and reevaluating.

My Interests

Anything I have never experienced! I don't want to find my place in the rat race and fight tooth and nail for my chunk of cheese. I could really give a flying fuck about following good old Horatio Algar. We have but a very short time on this earth! I DON'T WANT TO BE BORED! I love to travel, read, write, photograph, watch films, see plays, look at art, love, be loved, eat butter....in short live a life worth living. "Take life in big bites! Moderation is for Monks!"

I'd like to meet:

People that I would like to meet that are still breathing are in short supply. I would however give up my left testicle to share a meal with Robert Heinlien or Herman Hesse.

Music:

My taste is music is vast and varies depending on my mood. I love anything that shows a strong blues influence. I just can't help but dig that slow, somber, hard two-fours. My father was at Woodstock, so naturally that influenced my taste alot. The Beatles, The Stones, Jefferson Starship, Creedence, Dylan, The Band, you know all of the usually stereotypical hippie music. Lately I love house and experimental bands such as Morcheeba, Gnarls Barkley, Modest Mouse, Kings of Convenience, and Hot Chip. Jam bands will always hold a special place in my heart and of course I always have to pepper in some old outlaw country. Basically I love anything musicians that use the voicees they have to actually say something! I have also been on a big hip-hop kick lately, listening to such groups as J5, Blackalicious, Dead Prez, De La Sol, Del the Funky Homosapien, Mos-Def, The Pharcyde and so on....

Movies:

I am a total film geek. I essentially adore art of any form, but I find myself strangley drawn to film. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is a movie worth? I don't really life fluff of any sort. The point of art is to shake shit up, why make something cute and waste people's time-minds? I have been really digging on indie and French films lately. (I am in love with Audrey Tatou) There are certain actors, writers, and directors that you just know if they put their name on a project it is going to be a mind fuck! Net-flix has become my new best friend. I am able to rent every weird disturbing hard to find film I can imagine. Some flix I have dug recently are A Scanner Darkly, Happiness, Waking Life, I am a Sex Addict, Happinstance, Crash, Igby Goes Down, Shine, Dirty-Filthy Love, A Beautiful Mindand of course any Wes Anderson film.... The list could go on forever. I particularly enjoy films in which the antagonist is deep seated within the mind of the protagonist rather than being some outside force. I have no desire whatsoever to watch "our Hero" run from explosion to explosion.

Television:

I don't really like T.V. all that much. Every now and again I will get a whole series of something on DVD and vedge out on it, but is is usually something from HBO, Sho-time, or Comedy Central. I love Curb Your Enthusiasim and the Boondocks is fucking stellar!

Books:

I got into reading through Robert A. Heinlen. Every novel that man has ever written is gold! I am particularly fond of Job, To Sail Beyond the Sunset and Time Enough for Love. I have this thing with books. I seem to always read them at the exact time in my life that I will gain the most from them. A book can sit on my shelf for years and then one day I will simply get a wild hair up my ass and turn that first page, and am immediatly blind-sided by insight into my own life and state of mind. Lately I have been on a "I should have read this by now!" kick. I have been really enjoying Herman Hesse and Grahm Greene. Oh and I have also decided that Faulkner is hella over-rated!

Heroes:

Do we really have any heroes in our world today? The President of the...oh wait you can't even pull that one out these days. Most of the people I really admire are extremely fucked up and ostracized by most of society, yet still bear their souls and make an impact on the world. The losers of the "civilized" world are all my heroes! "It is easy to win!"
