Is anyone going to read this??Â
I relocated
to Devon, south west England, from South Africa in 2002, which was a bit like
starting life all over again, but its all good and my love affair with Devon
will be six years old this Christmas.
I arrived here with a container filled
with my worldly possessions, including a car and 27 African drums. The car was
stolen shortly after I arrived, but I still have the drums.
In South
Africa I worked as a skin diving instructor, drug counsellor and percussionist
(hey I needed balance in my life!) but the only part of my previous life that I
brought with me was the music. Its been no mean feat converting from the rhythms
of Africa to the rhythm of the Devon pub, but with a bit of imagination,
improvisation and lots of hard work, something workable came out of it all.
Through music I have made friends and connected with wonderful people all over
England that I would otherwise never have met and I'm sure that is going to
continue to be the case for many years to come.
