The Boyz Bioz:
George Oddie: AU: Mini Foxy; USA American Toy Fox Terrier. ‘George’ is what I used to name bugs and spiders so that my mother could not kill them. ‘Oddie’ is from Garfield as his ears reminded me of the character when he was a lil tyke. George came in as a stray to the Dakabin RSPCA QLD Shelter in March 2003. He was 3 months old with giant ears and covered in scabs. I fell in love with him instantly. His immune system was too week to combat the mites that are naturally on all dogs…and our eyelashes. He was deemed to be put to sleep but I fought for him, fostered him for the 8 weeks it took to medicate him, had him neutered and adopted him. When my visa expired he flew home to the USA with me. He has been an excellent shelter helper, bringing timid and shy animals out of their shells so they too could be adopted. George has assisted in keeping his brothers in line and has also taught them how to little gentleman. He has Ashley to thank for teaching him, my beloved Husky cross that passed my last year in Australia, RIP.
Billy Buddy: Min Pin a.k.a. Miniature Pincher. ‘Billy’ is the name I gave him to replace his old name of ‘Buddy’. Billy was surrendered to the Denver Dumb Friends League for destroying mini blinds. Apparently the story goes his first owners left him in the back yard as an only dog for 3 years (yes thru the winter as well). Then they were getting rid of him and their friends took him in for 2 years. They tried to make him an indoor dog but he had acquired separation anxiety so he would destroy stuff when left alone. The mini blinds were the last straw in August of 2005, when he was about 5 and a half. So the DDFL sent a call out to the Min Pin Rescue as they were going to put him to sleep otherwise. The Rescue had no room in foster. The call went out on LiveJournal and long story short, I got sucked in. We brought him home and that was all she wrote. George fell in love with him so he stayed. He has had many issues but we have managed to work thru most of them and the others we just deal with day to day. He is a lovely love bug pup all in all, despite all the hurdles. He was dealt a poor deal to begin with but he’s livin life large now.
Charlie Cha Chee: Long Haired Chihuahua. ‘Charlie’ is the name I gave him to replace his old name of ‘Cha Chee’. Charlie was surrendered to the Kentucky Humane Society for marking / urinating inside the house in April 2006. They had had him for a year, as an entire male, and decided to get another entire male. Well, putting the two together obviously caused Charlie to mark his territory. In doing this they decided to get rid of the ‘old’ one and keep the ‘new’ one. He must have been a mess because before they surrendered him they shaved him. He was scared, nippy, had scabs all along his tail from the shave and was not going to make it with that attitude. They had deemed him to be put to sleep until they saw me holding him. Apparently no one bar one male volunteer could get near him but he let me reach right in and pick him up. So for the next week I socialized him with as many people as possible and as many animals as possible to get him adoptable. The problem was that Chi’s pick their people and I had fallen for him….so I adopted him at the end of my week there and flew him home. He is not a typical Chi though. He loves all people, never nipps, loves all dogs, even loves kids and walks on his own 4 feet.
Bradley Twig: Min Pin cross Chihuahua Pug, as he has gotten older we have realised he is not a chi at all hahaha, 50% snorty Pug all the way. ‘Bradley’ is the name I gave him as it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw him. ‘Twig’ is the name the shelter gave him. Bradley came into the North County Humane Society & SPCA as a stray from Vista in April 2007. There has been dispute over his age. Some say he is around 11 months and others say he is about 2 years. I’m going to say he is still a puppy so I’m going with 11 months, and I base this on how he acts and his current motor skills. He’s still dopey and clumsy. We know nothing of his past other than he is used to eating human food, cooked meat. He was underweight when he came in and entire so he probably went walk abouts on the trail by scent. I met him and it was all over. He was a screamer and across from a slowly going pen crazy pit bull that would slam his metal food bowl around. I spent 3 days struggling with what to do and if I could handle 4 for possibly up to 19 years. I called my boarders and talked about fees…they said they would cut me a deal….and with that it was done. I changed my flight home, booked him a ticket, had him neutered and adopted him. He was sick for 3 days but now he is home and fitting in perfectly with the others.~MW
