Pianist, composer, arranger, 28, from Sao Paulo, Brasil, living in New York, since January 2007.In the beginning of 2005 I put together some musicians with whom I had worked previously and some whom I liked from a long time and cut this CD. The outcome we called Quizomba:A meeting of several generations of musicians, from traditional to contemporary, from Africa with Brazil and jazz. From old-timers such as Robertinho Silva, from Wayne Shorters Speak no Evil and Nereu Gargalo, from Trio Mocotó backing the brass of young São Paulo musicians. From the gritty Graça Reis songs, an offspring of the Alcântara clan, of the traditional Fanti-Ashanti candomblé house with a piano and strings quartet. From the percussion that comes from Djalma Correas hands, the beat to be heard in some of the most important Brazilian albums, together with Isaar França, enchanting wherever he goes while duetting with DJ Dolores From the voices of Mariana de Moraes and Celso Sim, from the indigenous chants recreated by Letícia Coura and Karina Buhr, of woodwinds making way to the drums while they beat the beat: its party-time, its Quizomba. A unique, plural work with its roots deeply dug in African and Brazilian rhythms but at the same time universal and connected with the world. A sample of todays Brazilian music and its endless possibilities.
