Welcome to the myspace page for SNC Music Dept. SNC stands for South Nottingham College. Here are some words from the college prospectus:

South Nottingham College is the most established College in Nottingham when it comes to music and music production, with first rate facilities and lecturers with a wealth of experience. We run two main full time courses firstly the BTEC First Diploma in Music (Technology) This course is a level two course, (i.e. equivalent to G.C.S.E.) and runs for one year.

Entry Requirements are 4 GCSEs at Grade D including English and Maths. or relevant commercial experience or portfolio for mature applicants. An enthusiastic outlook and an interest in the media is an advantage. All applications will be interviewed.

This course is designed as an introduction to Music Technology and the Music Industry covering the following areas:

Midi Sequencing, Digital Audio Recording, how the Music Industry REALLY works (this is a real insiders view, and the content of this course you will not find anywhere else!)Performance, and an introduction to running an event and also planning for a potential CD release with an additional chance to put together a special subject investigation of the students choice as well as an introduction to the skills of audio/video production! This course is aimed at people who want a gentle introduction to the Music Industry and progression roots could be as follows:

BTEC National Diploma, HND Music Production; Foundation Degree - Visual Arts, Media and Community Enterprise; Degree in Music Technology or employment as Sound Engineer; Producer; Music Industry Support Positions, self employment, media etc.

Assessment Progress is measured by continual assessment of personal projects and assignments.

Then we have our second full time course, namely the BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology

This course is a two-year full time level 3 course (i.e. equivalent to 3 A levels)
During the students time here they will be introduced to the music industry, as well as giving them practical skills in Music Recording, Music Based Programming and using Music Technology such as a multi-track mixing desk. Computer hardware and software (Midi Sequencing) using in creating and editing audio sound electronically is also used. As well as a thourough overview of how the industry works, as well as an invaluable insight into the evolution and future direction of todays popular music styles.

Students are therefore, equipped with professional skills making them employable within the music industry. They will be multi-skilled and have an excellent overview of how the industry functions and the various roles available.

Course Content: Studio production skills; Performance; Staging and Event; Crewing. Musical History and cultural appreciation, Video, multi media sound production, Radio.

Progression: HND Music Production; Foundation Degree - Visual Arts, Media and Community Enterprise; Degree in Music Technology or employment as Sound Engineer; Producer; Music Industry Support Positions.

We also run part time short evening courses in Midi Sequencing and an introduction to the guitar. These short courses are recommended for mature students who want to get a start into the world of modern music creation, or for people who cannot commit to a full time course. For more info:

One more thing we will say, if you REALLY love music and want to REALLY know how things work, then coming on one of these courses is for you!
