In The summer of 96 SUMP came together, five of Melbournes most ambitious and experienced musicians all with the same goals in putting togeter a kickarse hard rock band, which they felt AUSTRALIA had been lacking for years !!!Quoted as one of the most hardest working hard rock bands in Australia,SUMP believe that getting out there to the people, giving it one hundredpercent makes their live performance more important.
"A night of sweat, high energy and entertainment" are characteristics of the reviews written about SUMP, wrtten by some of Australia's most respected music magazines. SUMP understands that paying the dues through hard work, will bring success.SUMP describe their original material as influenced by every day issues of life around them, from past and present experiences. This, combined with gutsy, powerful guitar riffs and strong hook lines lyrically, are the perfect ingredients in writing good songs. The simplest things work the best.
With this in mind, SUMP put together the bands first debut CD-EP which was released in January of 97', titled "The next state of mind". The CD was distributed through Melbourne Record company, NEW MARKET MUSIC.Since then, SUMP have never looked back, with positive reviews from music journo's in Australia and strong applause from the punters on the release.SUMP decided that the next thing to do was to release and produce the bands debut video from the single off the EP called 'Family'.In December of 97', Family had been played on all of Australia's major music shows such as Rage, Recovery (ABC) and Asylum (CH31) etc. From this point SUMP felt the market for their music was definately not only for and Australian audience but also an international one. Late in 97' SUMP went shopping overseas, looking for distribution and management for their long awaited debut album which they had written and was ready to go sitting on the shelf. After an extensive search from the bands management in Australia, Loco Management, they were finally signed to Arunda in March of 98'. With Arunda situated in the Netherlands they would handle all of the bands management and distribution overseas, covering Europe, Asia, America and the rest of the world. While waiting for the album to be released, SUMP produced and released another video clip from the forthcoming album, titled 'One Moment' again being played on Australia's music shows and international shows such as MTV in Europe and England. This was in preperation for the album release. With all this in place, SUMP were ready to show their live performances to the rest of the world, with the band invited to tour Europe at the end of 98'.Unfortunately for SUMP and Loco Management, Arunda went bankrupt, taking all of SUMPS hard earned cash and promises of an album release and world tour with them.SUMP continued on for another 12 months playing around Australia and experienced a number of line up changes. It was then that the three remaining original members decided when the time is right will one day will return with a vengance, so stay tuned. and enjoy!
