Ska Faktor was first established by bass player Dmitri Gornakov, who came up with the idea to play ska music. Initially the band had seven members: Rebecca Kontus/vocals, Taavi Otsus/trombone, Märt Ääremaa/sax, Peep GeraÅ¡tÅ¡enko/trumpet, Juss Kaarepere/guitar, Dmitri Gornakov/bass and Elvis Jakobson/drums. Initial repertoire consisted of well-known foreign ska hits and local dance hit covers. In the beginning the band had difficulties to find its own face.Soon it was clear that the band shall continue with 6 members as Rebecca left and Taavi took her place as the lead vocal which gave the band a new boost. First single „Isemoodi tüdruk“ („Peculiar girl“) was recorded. The song achieved the first place in the Radio 2 (leading Estonian radio channel) chart and gained the week demo title and eventually managed to stay in the chart for 33 weeks. In oct.2006 Taavi and Peep were summoned to the Estonian army and therefore a small pause occurred in the band’s activity. The previously mentioned single lived its own life meanwhile and gained recognition. The other members of the band gathered from time to time to practice and generate new ideas. When Taavi and Peep finally returned from the army, the situation of the band did not look so good as there was volition to do things but not enough possibilities. Fortunately, the band was discovered by manager Emil Oja who looked for cooperation with the band. As a result of this cooperation second single was issued. This was ska version of well-known Estonian pop-song writer’s production â€Käime koos†(â€We go togetherâ€). At the same time, the band started to think about its first album as the possibilities and material already existed. The album “Aeg on uus†(“Time is newâ€) was recorded in 2007 and its main idea was to look back on the time we had already been to see the time we are at the moment. Although ska music was not very acknowledged nor popular in Estonia, the performances of SKA Faktor were followed with great success. Many songs from the album obtained popularity in the radio and the band found its fans and gained reputation. The song „Real Big Money“ was chosen to compete at the Estonian national final of Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 (ten best songs were chosen out). Considering the level and recognition of the other performers in the finals, finally reaching sixth place can be considered a very good achievement. It was also the first song that gained acknowledgement outside Estonia. In the summer of 2008 the band participated on its first concert tour in Estonia with other well-known artists and 10 successful concerts were carried out.In December 2008 another single „Suudle mind“ („Kiss me“) was published and in
February 2009 new song „Lollide armee“ („The army of fools“) was issued. One of the songs from the first album – “Tantsupeole†(“To the dance party!â€) was selected as one of the dances at the 2009 Song and Dance Festival. Due to the fact that the Song and Dance Festival is very popular among the Estonian people, the song, and also the band, achieved more popularity in Estonia.
In December 2009, the second album called “Lollide armee†(“The army of foolsâ€) was issued. This album contains few previously mentioned hit songs as well as new songs in Estonian and English. The album also includes some covers of famous English pop songs like “It’s my partyâ€.From cold Estonia – COOL SKA!Real Big Money
