Mike Fudakowski

About Me

"An extraordinary, magical musician" (Hera - Icelandic songstress)
"The finest bass player in the city" (James Wilkinson - guitar virtuoso)
"The bastard offspring of Les Claypool and Yoda" (an enthusiastic punter)
Born 98 years to the day after Aleister Crowley (rhymes with 'slowly') in Dunedin, New Zealand - the traditional departure point for visitors to R'lyeh (though the waterfront has smartened itself up considerably, and those looking for any sign of noxious Cthulhu cults in the sea-taverns will be disappointed. But the scallops are great).
Mike currently lives and teaches in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has been playing bass guitar since 1989 and experimenting with extended-range 8-string basses since 1998.
Formerly the bass player for Dunedin band Umlaut and Christchurch bands Cripple Mr Onion & JamFa, Mike now performs with bizarre funk trio Zombigroove and the very prog Bob Lazar Story as well as occasional session work.
GEAR:
"Octavo" aka "the Coffee Table", Peter Stephen 8-string bass, Bassculture pickup and Seymour Duncan preamp
"Bel Shamharoth", Peter Stephen 5-course 8-string half-fretless (hyphen frenzy!) bass, EMG 45DC pickup
Ibanez ATK 300, Bassculture pickup and Seymour Duncan preamp
Moog Etherwave theremin
Lots of little Boss pedals
More new TABs are up! Check the pic gallery for a selection of Cripple and Zombigroove riffs

Grandfather's old axe and the ship of Theseus

Much fun to be had with this, particularly as it applies to musical instruments like this one. James had a right-handed Washburn 6-string, which got a left-handed body made for it... then a new fretle...
