About Me

This Baltimore born musician has small plans to do big things and claims he has not even gotten started. DJ I.N.C., short for In No Category, grew up in Baltimore city in the 80’s. He was fortunate to grow up hearing hip hop in its early stages. That, mixed with the constant soul and funk from his parents stereo, built what he calls “The INC Sound”. He modestly started playing piano by ear at age 5 and began performing recitals at 7. In the summer of 1989, his mother felt that the streets of B-more were no place to raise him and his two younger sisters. She, as well as his Aunt and two cousins, made the move to Farmville, VA. Still heavy into music, he joined the school band. He played a variety of instruments and played drums for local churches as well as a local rock band. It wasn’t until his older cousin, DJ Mike Cheka, got started djing that the young musician turned his eye to the 12’s. Whenever his older cousin wasn’t around, I.N.C. was honing his new craft. With the help of DJ Packrat, Fingerprints, and Mike Cheka, he was able to build a name in the area that quickly spead thoughout the state. This lead to shows at several Virginia colleges and universities as far away as DC. His high school graduation marked his latest relocation to the Hampton Roads area to attend NSU. There he joined the Spartan Legion Marching Band, Jazz band, Guitar Ensemble, and played Bass for about a year with the OutLaw Go-Go band. Mista Nice, DJ Ruckus and DJ Kustom lead I.N.C. to Hot91 in Norfolk, VA. Starting with the MixX@Six, a 20 minute mix segment, he soon moved to the microphone where he hosts the critically acclaimed afternoon show, The Evening Drive. After a short break from the demands of radio, his on-air presence was requested to fill the void left by his absence. He has most recently appeared with the likes of the hottest acts in the music industry and has also appeared on BET's Rap City. With classes in music production, music law, and video production, alongside his on-air prowess and turntable wizardry, I.N.C. has all the ammunition needed for an assault on the future of Hip Hop and music in general.
