About Me

Q: Hey! Who's "Thensville?"
A: "shawnuff" is already taken as a username on MySpace!
Anyway. Our hero (and he should be yours too) -- Greg Shaw -- tragically left this planet in the Autumn of 2004. Something had to be done. So we mounted a tribute/benefit show at Brooklyn's Magnetic Field the following January, with the redoubtable Lenny Kaye as master of ceremonies. This, then, is the ad-hoc band that we came up with -- and we called it (what else?) SHAW 'NUFF.
After brutalizing an unsuspecting audience (well, actually, they may have suspected) with faithful recreations of Big Star, Standells, Flamin' Groovies, Left Banke, Zombies, 13th Floor Elevators, Searchers, Blues Magoos, Nazz, Byrds, Pretty Things, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Remains, and Raspberries songs, we all said -- after timely applications of oxygen -- "Hey, that was fun, for the most part, and we should do it again sometime."
Since then, we've crawled back out of our cave two or three times a year, each time stunning our audience with the sheer audacity of our repertoire, if nothing else. We've also done single-act tribute shows saluting artists as diverse as The Monkees, Arthur Lee and Love, and Phil Ochs. Why? Because we care.
Now don't deny it! You love us!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=29539255480
Band Members:
PETER STUART (bass, vocals)
Veteran of the 1970s/80s NYC garage revival, with The Tryfles and The Headless Horsemen. Appeared at Cavestomp '99 with The Standells, at Cavestomp 2000 with both The Beau Brummels and The Blues Magoos, and in September 2001 with Mark Lindsay's Cavestomp Redcoats. Currently a member of indie darlings Special Pillow. If Peter doesn't know the song, it probably isn't worth knowing.
KURT REIL (drums, vocals)
Founding member of The Grip Weeds (latest album Giant On The Beach out now on Rainbow Quartz Records, as well as the spiffy new expanded reissue/remix of their debut LP "House of Vibes" and a dandy best-of package on Wicked Cool Records) and Jim Babjak's Buzzed Meg. Appeared at Cavestomp 2000 with The Beau Brummels, and in September 2001 with Mark Lindsay's Cavestomp Redcoats. If Kurt can't play the song, it probably can't be played.
MIKE FORNATALE (guitar, vocals, other stuff) Has played and/or sung with The Monks, Moby Grape, Kelley Stoltz, Roman Elsener, The Von Ghouls, The Royal Purple, Kerry Kennedy, Muck and the Mires, The Misteriosos, Meagan Brothers, The Emby Confection, Dave Foster's Bubble, The Flaming Buscarenos, and Mark Lindsay's Cavestomp Redcoats. Has stood in at soundchecks for Alana Amram and Arthur Lee. (Listed in descending height order.) Currently a member of The Losers' Lounge and Richard And The Young Lions. If Mike doesn't know the song, give him a minute.
MICHAEL LYNCH (guitar, vocals)
Has played and sung with The Lynchpins and The Anything People. Featured artist at International Pop Overthrow shows, 2003 and 2004. If Michael knows the song, he's also intimately familiar with all nine re-mixes.
WENDY FORNATALE (keyboards, percussion, guitar-under-duress)
She used to be "Wendy Eisimont," just in case she still owes you money. Has only appeared once in public (other than with this project) since college -- on 9 May 1987 -- with The Wendytones. Wearing a bridal gown and veil. Well, it WAS her wedding after all. Eighteen years later she's out of retirement and it's about damn time. If Wendy doesn't know the song, she will bring post-it notes. In color codes.
KRISTIN PINELL REIL (flute, guitar, vocals, Connecticut Aura)
Lead guitarist in The Grip Weeds. We brought her in as a Utility Player on flute, when we did an Arthur Lee tribute show. It seemed silly not to have her play guitar as well, since she's the only one of us who can actually work the thing. If Kristin doesn't know the song, she will sit in the audience and drink with you.
Our special guest artistes have included The Mooney Suzuki's Will Scott, The Insomniacs' Mike Sinocchi, the Wirebirds' Michael O'Neil, and The Miscreants' Matt Friedlander. At his own wedding. Does that count?
Influences: Beatles, Stones, Zombies, Searchers, Dave Clark Five, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Easybeats, Blues Magoos, Beau Brummels, Standells, Chocolate Watchband, Left Banke, Flamin' Groovies, Big Star, Pretty Things, Shadows of Knight, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Remains, Raspberries, Arthur Lee and Love, Hollies, Castaways, Beach Boys, Nazz, Kinks, Young Rascals, Buckinghams, Yardbirds, Moby Grape, Quicksilver, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Small Faces, Badfinger, Troggs, Monkees, Tim Buckley, The Monks, Marianne Faithfull, Headless Horsemen, Hoodoo Gurus, Mamas and Papas, Neil Diamond in 1966, Phil Ochs, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich, The Action, Little Richard, Tim Hardin, Bob Dylan, The Turtles, Ramones, Bar-Kays, The Sorrows, Cliff Nobles, We Five, and of course anything else that's good and has no digital stuff in it.
Sounds Like: The record.
Record Label: You need one. Or you can't tell what record it is.
