About Me

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor

It's been undeniably dear to me, I don't know why
When every other part of life seemed locked behind shutters
I knew the worthless dregs we are,
The selfless, loving saints we are,
The melting, sliding dice we've always been.
-- The Shins
Actor, writer, improviser, performer of original monologues, sometimes a theatre instructor, sometimes a creative writing teacher, sometimes touring with issue-oriented shows and educational theatre, sometimes just plain horrifyingly unemployed (now would be one of those times) , sometimes freaking out about that, sometimes guiltily pleased that it gives me time to take walks, sit in cafes, notice details, people-watch, stage vegetable soap operas in the produce aisle, stay up late, and throw off my body clock and every last hope of a circadian rhythm. I ride the light rail between extroversion and introversion, I talk too much, I’m sure of so little, I plunge myself headfirst into vast public dorkiness, making catastrophic mistakes, laughable blunders and mortifyingly bad decisions several times a day and twice on Sundays. I have a deep love affair with words; I have less love for numbers, but we do stay in touch. I gulp art, I swill creativity, I hear a soundtrack in my head behind everything I do...every day is a secret mix tape.
What a beautiful, unfixable mess I'm in,
With little idea how to cross
This wide, wild water,
Or whose rough hands will pull me over.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Other theatre artists, writers, performers, theatre companies, anyone interested in talking about booking my two solo shows or hiring me to write, teach or be an artist-in-residence, anyone who wants to pass on the word about cool arty stuff I should know about -- grants, opportunities, festivals, plays, collectives, auditions, super-secret philanthropists just dying to throw handfuls of money at scrappy thespianic urchins out to change the world....
And anyone who thinks and feels deeply...those unrecognized superheroes who fight against bitterness and jaded attitudes to remain open-hearted and radiant...anyone restlessly curious and inquisitive who lives with both some element of brilliance AND naivete. You who are non-judgmental, laughing, literate, eternally young-spirited, dancing to your own music, maybe a misfit, mad genius, or arty loner?, unafraid to take a risk, to make a mistake, to play spontaneously, to dump the warm laundry over your head and frolic until your briefs cool down. I'd like to meet people who want to reach out, and be reached out to...
The thing is we have this terrible fund of love
inside us, and if we don't spend it, we're screwed.

Boxelder bug season has hit, as evidenced by five winged visitors to my apartment in one day last week. Ladybug (Japanese beetle?) season has apparently also hit, and there is a poignant entymologica...

Giant Chick Head. (x-posted belatedly from my other journal.)

I tried so hard to resist the urge to buy the Giant Chick Head in the Easter Décor aisle of Target. I tried to get myself to love the package of three *tiny* chick heads connected by elastic ($5.00),...
