I love the West Wing. But mainly 'cos I wish it was true. Hey - if government's all about ratings anyway, can't we put the people who write the West Wing into office and have some sensible policies for a change?
I look out for Neal Stephenson, China Mieville, Stephen Baxter, Alistair Reynolds, Richard Morgan, Michael Marshall (Smith), and anything in a similar vein......and anything that takes some arcane area of science, mathematics, history, exploration and renders it readable and informative is probably a good bet. Fermat's Last Theorem, Longitude, Wonderful Life, The Dinosaur Hunters, that kind of thing.And once in a while, I'll work my way through the top ten bestseller list just to see what everyone else is reading. That used to involve quite a lot of reading until Dan Brown came along. Now it's more like the top six.
