Knackers!

About Me

Knackers began life in York as a busking trio back in 1988, with a line-up of trombone, banjo and bass, playing predominantly at the local Old Orleans restaurant and St John's College. With a set list largely culled from "101 Jazz Tunes for Buskers", the music was gradually fused with Irish folk and Jamaican ska, and by 1990 we had expanded to 6, resulting in a fully-functional live band. In 1994 two more horns were added, creating the 8 piece that has lasted until 2008. Enthused by the response to our first album "Grab Yer Partner's" in 2004, Knackers began writing original material, some 16 years after forming - quite a step for a band that by now were playing live only once or twice a year due to our members being strewn across the UK. The results were equally pleasing, and some of those tunes can be heard here on the myspace website. Knackers still exists as much as a vehicle for sustaining long-standing friendships, as it does for the music itself, and it's hoped that those original jazz tunes which we once busked aged 20, will still be being played in some shape or form as we claim our pensions in 2040..
2009 is an "at-ease" year for Knackers, with just one show in September, but we hope to return in 2010 with some summer festival appearances, and finally bring out our second album, 5 years overdue. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
