OKO JUMU ( new CD: EVERYTHING'S LIQUID) is an unique collective of World Fusion with a twist, headed by Keyboardist, Dave Falciani and twenty-plus artists including: Gerald Veasley, Ed Hamilton, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, John Swana & Ben Schachter. Dave Falciani is the one who "saw through the dream" to create OKO JUMU. The concept began as a GOA TRANCE side project of this Jazz keyboardist. Dave also has two other solo- artist, OKO JUMU releases: EXOTIC MATTER and KAOS KARMA. This, just-released CD- EVERYTHING'S LIQUID (Dreambox Media), is the first OKO JUMU recording with all live musicians, of many Dave Falciani has played and recorded with over the last twenty years. OKO JUMU is comprise of musicians who, besides their own solo endeavors, have performed or recorded with diverse artists as: the Zawinul Syndicate, Ornette Coleman, Bad Brains, Stanley Clark, Jill Scott, Peter Murphy and Special EFX to name a few. Dave Falciani was a classically- trained pianist from the age of 6 & by 13, was performing and winning piano competitions at CARNEGIE HALL in New York. It was during that period, he found himself intrigued by a home-town Philly Jazz radio station and heard a McCOY TYNER record for the first time. He knew from that point on: Everything would be different. Throughout his musical career, Dave Falciani has performed in clubs and venues from the BLUE NOTE to the HOLLYWOOD BOWL. He has performed extensively on a variety of music recordings, as well as movie scores, television commercials, and theater productions. Over 200 dance remixes have been credited to him. More recently Dave Falciani can be heard on recordings by guitarist Ed Hamilton (Telarc, Shanachie, Fahrenheit), Jamaaladeen Tacuma (Gemini, Gemini-BTM), Tom Gillam (Gotham, 95 North), Remixes with Cesium 137 ( Metropolis). Dave has also performed on recordings with Stanley Clark, Lenny White, and George Howard. Before relocating to Key West, Florida, Dave Falciani and partner, Ed Hamilton were the owners of STUDIO CRASH in Philadelphia. Their expertise & years of stage experience helped pave the way for many budding local artist including legendary John Legend. Key West, with it's large Cuban & Caribbean population, had brought to Dave's musical style an enlarged World sensibility . He felt a new musicality begin to form. With this new inspiration & from his countless Jazz gigs, rock tours and love of World and Electronic music, he found himself breaking away from some past traditions of the classic Jazz style. But in the midst of new projects, life came to an abrupt halt when Hurricane Wilma overwhelmed this tiny tropical island. Work was put on hold but it did not stop the mind from creating and out of the "wreckage" Dave pooled together all his influences in this new CD: EVERYTHING'S LIQUID. Dave Falciani strives to keep the looseness of a live Jazz show flowing through EVERYTHING'S LIQUID. Vocals in Spanish, Yoruba and Portuguese and a collaboration with the United African Dance & Drum Ensemble illuminate the vibe of this project. He believes that the main essence of music is the drum. And to see OKO JUMU live is a percussive event with the excitement of a band improv, all flowing together...EVERYTHING'S LIQUID.
