About Me

Still Lazy After All These Years....
But somehow it's all gone wrong and I'm busier than I've ever been. I seem to be living my life backwards: I retired at 17 and am now entering the busiest time of my career so far.
I'm releasing a CD of songs. Having done 4 instrumental albums as a WEA artist, this is a new venture for me. Rather than try to sing songs about teenage love, the lyrics deal unashamedly (and sometimes explicitly!) with life as a 50-year-old father-of-two.
I'm also doing more and more production work. A natural progression after my experience as a session musician and technology-anorak.
As a producer, I know that I'm interested in the moment of creation, not re-creation.
I love to work with players rather than programmed music.
And if you can hear that it was produced by me... I've failed. I'm not the artist, so it shouldn't sound like my record.
OK, the list of names to impress the impressionable: I've worked with (among others):
Roger Waters (post-Pink Floyd)
Mike Oldfield
Suede
Scott Walker
David Allan Coe
Westernhagen, and many more.
Fans of Withnail and I will also be familiar with my playing: I played guitar on the soundtrack of this classic movie.

Influences:
Where do I start?
Anyone and everyone who ever played a note from the heart without caring what they looked like..Keef, not Mick; Glenn Gould, not Richard Clayderman;
Harold Budd, Grateful Dead, Emmy-Lou Harris, Jeff Beck, Tschaikovsky, Keef again (God Bless him for falling out of a tree at his age!!!!) Underworld, my mate Steve Pearce for elbowing me awake, John Fowles, John le Carre, Vidor, the contents of my iPod....
Little Feat, Poco, Jeff Beck, Monty Don, Robert Pirsig, James Hunt... Steely Dan, the blessed and revered Joni Mitchell, Rick Rubin, Gram Parsons, Tom Petty, more?
David Bowie
The way my boat comes alive when the wind fills the sails, the way a guitar in my hands still makes the world go away.
Inspired by the late great Jake Thackray, who used to write and perform a topical song every week for a TV show, here's my immediate response to the election of Obama.
