The Corridor

About Me

The Corridor has been in existence since the early nineties, forming from the ashes of Autobutcher, a debauched free for all of industrial noise that featured Stereolab's Simon Johns on guitar.

A first release on Andrew Weatherall's Sabres of Paradise label was followed up with 2 releases on Ashley Marlowe's New Ground Records, a remix on Third Mind (a favourite label of the band), the album Serious Earth, released on ReCon and tracks on various industrial music and dance compilations.
The new album: DARK ARYTHMATIC is available for download as mp3 or (CD quality) Flac file, just click on the link.

Band Members: The current line-up is Chris Barter, Andrew Phillips and Dave Dilliway.
Chris is the founder member of the band, blending his dark, industrial sound with an acid vibe and recordings of the spoken word that may evoke images of the beats, or the gruff ramblings of Tom Waits, albeit frozen within harsh, dystopian landscapes.
Check out my "pics" for written versions of my dystopian wordplay - the poetry of Chris Barter. Audio versions will appear on the site from time to time.
Dave weaves dark, cinematic slices of widescreen ambience and Andy co-runs Lo-Tek studios and records as one half of Bombay Monkey.
All three write, produce and engineer. Andy and Dave play out live and Chris has hinted at the idea of once again crawling from his lair to inflict repetitive beats and psychoacoustics upon the unsuspecting.
The female voice that Chris has been mangling lately belongs to Sonia Heywood.
Influences: Absinthe, acid house, distortion, synthesisers, sequencers, film. Santiago Calatrava, Floria Sigismondi, H.R. Geiger. Hitchcock, David Lynch, Walter Murch, Hammer Studios. The female voice (sensual, not bending your ear) Kraftwerk, Laibach, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242. The Tarot, engines, Bowie, Rock 'n Roll, Black Sabbath. Kawasakis, the H1R, H2R and especially the mighty Z1 (insert that sound Homer makes when he thinks of doughnuts), Scott racing cycles. Carbon fibre. Victor Horta, Dave McKean, Art Nouveau, Ford GT40, Lola T70, The much missed Spiral Tribe, the Grumman Prowler, hawk moths, snipers, cinematography, George Orwell, THX 1138, samplers, Korg musical instruments, U boats, Richie Hawtin, LFO, the Lockheed Martin Skunk works, Gerry Anderson, Scanner, ribbon mics, Ray Harryhausen and The Sandman. Keep The Aspidistra Flying.
Sounds Like: Roughly speaking, Luke Slater, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Nine Inch Nails, The Orb, Future Sound of London, Orbital, Underworld, Psychic Warriors of Gaia. Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire.
