The Space Bugs project started in the summer of 2005 with the drummer, Alessandro Cavallaro (Alex), who decided to gather a group of musicians to record an EP. The idea was not to create a band, but to simply record some material he would be proud of, and experience the freedom of directing and managing the project himself.
During the following year he managed to start writing songs with guitar player Leandro Fiacco, and base & guitar player Fabio Gabbianelli. Inspired by many artists and by different musical styles, Alex experimented mixing different music genres toghether. The results were very exiting and motivating: new ideas came flowing every day thanks to the strong and creative desire of writing music. All of the basic instrumental parts of the Space Bugs songs developed during this period, with only 3 instruments: bass, guitar, and drums.
After a lot of hard work, in april '05, Alex finally decided to record a 7 track album (EP) in 2 different studios. The first studio to record the drum, bass, and guitar tracks. The second studio idea was decided at the last minute, and used to record the other istruments like saxophones and keyords plus all of the voices. This is where Alessandro met Fabio Tullio, a professional and creative sax player. Fabio was with out a doubt a central element in the creation and recording of the Space Bugs project. Thanks to his highly technical music qualities and experienced ability to work with digital audio workstation softwares, he recorded the sax & horn sections, the keyboards & synthesizer, and edited, mixed and mastered all of the music. As a consequence a large part of the EP was actually created and performed during the recording session.
Work went on for several months, because new ideas and arrangements kept on arising, but exactly one year later, on July 2006, the project was completed: The Landing!
