Born and raised in New York City, Jessie Murphy’s original songs and style have made her a favorite performer in her hometown, packing vaunted nightspots such as the Mercury Lounge, Siné, the Living Room, and Makor. In the summer of 2005 she unleashed her unique talent on Germany for a three week Tour, “From New York With Love,†garnering attention in a number of European publications including The London Guardian and Germany's Zitty Magazine.Hailed as a “winning singer/songwriter†by the New Yorker, “a photonegative of Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell’s scrappy kid sister†by the Village Voice, and chosen for Paste’s February 2006 EP Report, the press here at home are starting to take notice as well. Jessie released her Debut EP, Room Alone, to a standing room only crowd at NYC’s Living Room in October 2005.In 2006 Jessie formed band called The Love released one full length album, Songs for the Record on Sister Pony Records. The Love toured the UK as a supporting act British pop sensation, James Morrison. In 2007 Jessie left The Love and resumed her solo career, playing shows in New York City's prime acoustic venues.Jessie recently formed a new band, Jessie Murphy in The Woods and they are now in the studio working with producer Roger Greenawalt (Ben Kweller, The Pierces) on a new full length album. This new record is scheduled for release in December 2008.Jessie met her band mates, Marcia Webb and Amy Corso at Columbia University’s Teachers College where all three are currently working towards their Masters in Music Education.Two of Jessie’s songs, Good Life and S.O.B., from her 2004 release Live at the Fun House will appear in the upcoming New LIne Cinema release, Last Request, starring Danny Aiello. Last Request will be shown repeatedly Comedy Central during October 2008.
