*** AS A DRUMMER: MY TWO MAIN CURRENT GIGS ARE: WESTBOUND TRAIN (REGGAE BAND ON HELLCAT RECORDS, BOSTON MA), and ALEX BRUMEL AND JANEL ELIZABETH (UP AND COMING AMERICANA ACT FROM NJ/NYC). I previously performed with internationally touring Latin-pop act, deSoL, in addition to countless other NJ/NYC projects.
***AS A STUDENT: I earned my Master's Degree in Jazz History and Research from Rutgers University (May 2007) under the direction of Professor Lewis Porter, from which I have 400 pages of materials on Roy Haynes that I hope to put to good use one day. On the drumming end, I've studied privately with Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Alan Michaels, and Billy Ward.
*** AS A WRITER: Articles featured in: Modern Drummer Magazine, www.jazz.com, The Encyclopedia of African American Music (2009), and Musicians and Composers of the Twentieth Century (Salem Press, 2009)
*** AS A TEACHER: I taught "Rock Music and American Culture" at Rutgers University and "The History of Jazz" at Brookdale Community College (still do). While not on tour, I try to teach 12-15 private students per week. I'll show you what double paradiddles are and I'll tell you if you are holding your sticks wrong, but most of the time in my lessons is spent listening to and playing music, and concentrating on groove and time. Please contact me if interested!
***I AM AVAILABLE FOR RECORDING SESSIONS AS A DRUMMER AND/OR PRODUCER!!! - Send me a message on Myspace or contact me at: [email protected]
