DJ Runna, aka James Ward from West London now based in Leeds, has been involved with music from a very young age. Right the way through his school years he studied on a music scholaship which seen him trained to a high level classically on the Piano and Violin and which also brought him experiences which are to be vital throughout his music career.
In 1998 Runna found himself getting deep into the sound of underground music, mainly UK garage and Jungle. With a very sad attempt at trying to imitate the MCs alongside long time pal MC Major D, recording sets off pirate radio, and making beats which he laughs at now! DJ Runna knew this is what he wanted to do. Runna and Major D hooked up with a big, up and coming South London DnB DJ by the name of DECCA. Watching him mix was an inspiration and from then on, was hooked and has been collecting vinyl ever since.
In the summer of 2002 DJ Runna started a residency at a new bar named the 'Blue Room' in his local area Acton. As he was the only DJ who played there he was mainly mixing old skool Garage, RnB, some liquid DrumnBass or whatever the people were feeling. This was a big commitment playing every night he could around trying to work on his DnB career. But eventually the commitement and determination paid off when he hooked up with a collective called the West Londons Finest. West Londons finest consists of DJ Envy (Ice Cold FM) DJ Chyna (Ice Cold FM/Hammersmith Palais) DJ Double O (Garage Nation) DJ Felix (Podgy FM) DJ E (Freeze FM) Lil Rich (Ice Cold) alongside MCs Danger 18K (Freeze FM) Kaos (Black Operations) and Sharkie P ("Do you really like it?").
Playouts started picking up and a regular set on Londons leading Ice Cold FM saw DJ Runna happily play any sets that needed filling and making some very strong friendships with the family there which always see's him welcome when he is in London.
This was all to end shortly, when in 2004 the oppurtunity arose for him to move to Leeds to study "Sound Design for Film and TV".
Runna saw this as an oppurtunity to branch out nationally and packed his bags to move out from Mama Runna's yard to what they call 'the second capital of the UK'. Leeds! This was to be another lucky move because it was up north where DJ Runna met the one they call Taylor Turbo, and from then was the time RADIATION promotions was born!!
On March 17th Radiation had its debut event at the Leeds Student Union 1000 capacity club, Stylus. This event featured Mampi Swift, Bad Company, Steppa, IC3, Himself and none other than now Radiation resident MC Mekar.
After the emmense success of their first event Radiation was about to unleash the biggest rave Leeds has ever seen at Majetyks NightClub, one of the biggest clubs in the region. The 9th March 2006 Radiation joined forces with Innovation and put on the "Bare Bass Bonanza" which saw the likes of; Andy C, Bryan G, Mickey Finn, N Blkmarkt, Bailey from 1xtra, Ruffstuff, Logistics, Phantasy with UK Apache (Live PAs included) Funsta, Skibadee, Fearless, and many many more. This was the event that also saw the now residents DJ Uno and MC Melo-d from Kool FM London link up with the gang.
While all of this was going on, he studied at Uni for just over a year and decided that the course was not for him, and that he had had enough of education. MUSIC was what he wanted to put all of his time into and so getting a job, some money and knuckling down was the best option. Till this day he is still in Leeds supporting the scene and up and down the M1 motorway like a yo yo!!
