Sitting down and simply summing up a band that has found so much fun and success in three years is a difficult task. Since 7th grade, approximately three and a half years ago, Pipeline was formed by a: Topher Del Corral, who knew what he was doing on his instrument and simply did it for fun; Justin, one of those kids who comes home from Jui Jitsu practice and decides to build a bike at the age of 11; Shea, a redhead with his concentration on the finer things in life, such as Oreos; and Griffin, a quite original spirit who had no idea what he was doing with anything.
Song writing and minor shows came about quickly as both Topher’s garage and Justin’s basement served as perfect practice spots for the band. The name “Pipeline†arose simply out of the amount of pipes lying right above their heads while practicing, not because of the common confusion, the surfing Pipeline (no member actually surfs).
Three years later, thanks to friends, family, and a rising group of fans, Pipeline found success in both their self written, recorded, and titled EP; and a 5 month battle around all of NJ, taking place originally in small venues, but finally, in Starland Ballroom. Eliminating approximately 160 bands throughout the NJ area, August 25th 5 bands were remaining in the under 21 age group. Pipeline placed third, took home a few prizes, but most importantly, experience.
The lessons learned are key to the future success of Pipeline and their music. With the fun, nerve racking, and experience taken from the past few months, they are ready to tackle more goals, better music, and even more venues.
Finally, thank you to anyone who has ever given a listen to our music. When writing, the music is made to make our ears happy. If your ears are happy too, then it’s perfect. So thank you, and keep supporting all of the local bands.
